Next up on the UFA Preview series is Andrew Ference of the Boston Bruins. Once July 5 rolls around, if Ference will be able to converse and sign with any team in the league, since the Bruins plan on not re-signing him. Andrew Ference | D 5'10" | 194lbs 3/17/79, Age: 34 Past Contracts  Signed in 2007: 3-year, $4.2 million; $1.4 million cap hit Signed in 2010: 3-year, $6.75 million; $2.25 million cap hit Projected Earnings Next Season: $2.75-3.25 millon After letting Hal Gill walk, the Nashville Predators' defense now lacks a veteran Stanley Cup winner to guide the team through the playoffs. This year's free agent pool is low and Andrew Ference is a viable option for the missing role. Last season with the Boston Bruins, Ference was a second/third line defenseman, who was reliable on the back end with a +9 rating. While younger defensemen Victor Bartley,Mathias Ekholm and Ryan Ellis are developing to become top d-men in the league, Ference can be a safe option in the meantime.  Another good assett in Ference is that he can bring in playoff experience, something the Preds definitely lack since they can't get past the second round. Ference was runner-up in the NHL last season and was a Stanley Cup Champion in 2011. If Ference is signed by Nashville, it will not be longer than a one-year deal. Stats
