It looks like Luongo will get the starts in Vancouver Now your probably reading this and saying why is this on a Bruins blog?  The answer is because I, like most Bruins fans despise the Canucks and all their antics after that 7 game Stanley Cup finals, and nothing makes me happier than seeing a team I hate so much having a bunch of problems.  At the start of the short season there was all sorts of speculation that the Canucks were going to move forward with Massachusetts native Cory Schneider and ship Roberto Luongo. Now they are in a debacle. The stats are as follows, Schneider has a 2-2 record with a 3.13 Goals Against Average, and a .897 save percentage. Pretty bad for a goalie that the Canucks wanted to move forward with. Luongo's stats are as follows, 3-0-2 with a 1.53 Goals Against Average and a .940 save percentage. Luongo has looked like the vintage Luongo, but will he hold up? Currently the Canucks stand at 5-2-2, currently leading their "weak" division ...

It's getting awkward in Vancouver

Roberto Luongo made his fourth consecutive start Monday night for the Vancouver Canucks. Any other year, that would be nothing of note. But given the offseason the Canucks went through, it's a bit head-scratching. The Canucks seemed all but committed to Cory Schneider after giving the former backup a three-year contract extension worth $12 million. The secondary move, after...

Canucks Video: Alex Edler jumps up in the rush

Canucks save goal of the week for bitter rivals The Vancouver Canucks split their four games this past week with wins over the Avalanche and Blackhawks, leaning on surprise starter Roberto Luongo to backstop the team to victory. While Roberto Luongo was earning 3rd star of the week honours, Vancouver’s offensive game quietly got the job done this week against one of the league’s...

NWSB Picks: The weekly Vancouver Canucks three stars

The Best in Blue / Jan. 27-Feb.3 The Vancouver Canucks season is in full swing now, no more trailing off conversations regarding the lockout or what transpired in months past. It’s full on hockey time, and Bobby Lu looks more ready than ever. The Canucks started last week in disappointing shootout loss fashion. But after that heartbreaking loss to the Kings, Vancouver got some...

Cory Schneider’s Agent On The Vancouver Goalie Situation

from Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun, Just like his client, the agent for goalie Cory Schneider is not about to criticize the Vancouver Canucks for the team's handling of its goaltending situation. But Mike Liut, himself a former goalie, clearly hopes the uncertainty regarding a possible trade of Roberto Luongo does not hang over the team and Schneider all season. ...

Ian Esplen: Ryan Kesler's Butt

Follow me on twitter @IanEsplen to chat hockey, sports and life in general anytime Through nine games so far, it appears that the absence of one player's anatomy has left a glaring hole in the roster. That piece of anatomy is: Ryan Kesler's butt. So far this year the Canucks power-play has been pretty ordinary without Kesler's butt planted firmly in front of...

Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers: Tanever gonna give you up

Chris Tanev Edition Boxscore | Recap  Well, that game turned on a dime. For about 58 minutes, the Vancouver Canucks slogged through a muddled effort that looked like they had left their skateguards on they way the Oilers were flying. They had quite a few shots, but they were perimeter shots, and hardly quality chances. The Vancouver specials. And then Kevin Bieksa worked his late...

Ian Esplen: Canucks/Wild & Mock Draft

Follow me on twitter @IanEsplen to chat hockey, sports and life in general anytime The Vancouver Canucks traveling roadshow is in Minnesota tonight as the battle the Wild for Northwest Division superiority. The Wild’s season so far has been a tale of two teams. At home, they look like an unstoppable powerhouse and hold a 4-1 record at the Xcel Energy Center. On the...

Canucks erase two-goal deficit, drop Oilers in OT

EDMONTON -- Getting even is more fun than getting mad. Just ask the Vancouver Canucks. A week after the Edmonton Oilers came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Canucks 3-2 in their own building, Vancouver rolled into Rexall Place and did the exact same thing. Trailing 2-0 after 28 minutes, the Canucks flicked the switch to "swarm" and had their way with Edmonton...

Canucks 3, Oilers 2, OT

Chris Tanev scored at 4:40 of overtime, and the Vancouver Canucks rallied for their season-high third straight victory, 3-2 over the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 on Monday night. With just 2:17 remaining in regulation, and the Oilers holding a 2-1 lead, the Canucks tied it with a long shot from Kevin Bieksa that beat goalie Devan Dubnyk stick-side and forced overtime. Taylor Hall was awarded...

Canucks 4, Wild 1

Corey Schneider made 22 saves and Mason Raymond had a power-play goal and an assist in the second period to lead Vancouver past the sputtering Minnesota Wild 4-1 on Thursday night, the fourth straight win for the Canucks. Niklas Backstrom gave up two scores in each of the first two periods for the Wild, and Josh Harding was in the net for the final frame. Daniel Sedin, Chris Higgins...

Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers Game 9 notes, prediction & tweets!

I Love Lou Cory Schneider is still the starter of the Vancouver Canucks in the same way Roberto Luongo was still the starter last year when Schneider was riding a hot hand. All that’s really happening right now is that Luongo is increasing his trade value. Oh, and Ryan Kesler took part in his first practice yesterday. Things are looking up. Matchup: Vancouver Canucks (4 – 2...
