Last year, we saw the introduction of two new traditions in the days leading up to the NHL's Winter Classic: The 24/7 series, and on-ice engagements.
Granted, we didn't quite know the latter was going to become a tradition until Sunday afternoon, but clearly it has. The day before the 2011 Winter Classic, a friend of Mike Green used his connection to pop the question on the ice. Sunday afternoon, history repeated itself, as Claude Giroux's sister Isabelle got engaged there:
For the record, I don't suspect Isabelle will be allowing her brother to retell the engagement story at the wedding. Let's all relive Claude's version of the events:
"He called me, Eric, and he's like, 'I'm gonna propose to your sister, when should I do it?' And I'm like, 'Just do it on the ice,' and he was skating around for a half an hour, he was all nervous, like, 'I don't know how to do it,' and I'm like, 'Grow some balls, just do ...

The Philadelphia Flyers are definitely not hurting for equipment for tomorrow's Winter Classic Game at Citizens Bank Park.
Defenseman Matt Carle posted a picture on his Twitter account of the new sticks. The coolest feature on the stick has to be the silhouette of the Philadeelphia skyline on the shaft of the stick. The shaft also displays the date of the game and the opponent...
from Randy Miller of the Courier Post, “You know, it’s so funny to me — everybody is so happy here to play outside,” Flyers right wing Jaromir Jagr said. “When I was a kid, I played outside all the time and I was so happy to play inside. I think I’m the only guy who is upset about it.”
Not quite. Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov feels the same way. When asked if he’s...
The Winter Classic is the NHLs best American marketing tool.
Better than points leader Claude Giroux, who might as well be Claude Gir-who outside the Northeast and the Midwest.
Better than the RedWings-Blackhawks, Rangers-Flyers or Bruins-Canadiens rivalries.
Better even than the Stanley Cup playoffs.
That admission may sting, but its the truth. Nothing captures the American...
At first glance, hockey in Philadelphia looked unfamiliar before the Winter Classic.
Held in a venue that had never hosted an NHL game before, featuring a team uniform never-before-donned, and played in a brand-new calendar year, it seemed that the Flyers had a chance to become a whole new team.
Unfortunately, the sights became all-too-familiar once the puck dropped.

Claude Giroux and Jaromir Jagr hit the ice looking more ready to shag flies than practice the power play.
Mike Rupp scored two goals and Brad Richards posted the winner on top of a chilly baseball field, as the New York Rangers outlasted the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, in the Winter Classic on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.
Playing on a rink that stretched from first base to third base, the Rangers made the league's fifth Classic event a memorable one, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to...

Philadelphia jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Mike Rupp scored two goals, and Brad Richards scored the game-winner about five minutes into the third period as the Rangers defeated the Flyers, 3-2, in the 2012 Winter Classic at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia Monday.
The fifth edition of the NHL's Winter Classic is on tap today, as the Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers outdoors at Citizens Bank Park.
