Found January 26, 2013 on The Majors Detroit:
Did Ken Holland strike gold on another relatively undiscovered European player? Damien Brunner, a highly touted center in the Swiss League, looks to be adapting more and more to the NHL style of play since coming over from Europe this season. After an impressive shootout game winner against Columbus Monday night, Brunner scored his first NHL goal Tuesday in a losing effort to Dallas. Last night the rookie center then scored his second goal of the season on the power play sniping out the top corner against Josh Harding en route to a 5-3 Red Wing victory. The power play goal was impressive in itself given it was a true goal-scorers type goal, something the Wings have really been lacking since the departure of Marian Hossa a couple of years ago. Could Brunner be that pure goal scorer Detroit has been looking for? I guess I’m not ready to come to that conclusion just yet. We’re only four games into a shortened season something that might ultimately benefit Brunner in the short-run rathe...

Via RedWingsFeed, if you happen to have your evening free, the Detroit News's Lauren Abdel-Razzaq recommends that Wings fans might want to head out to the Troy Sports Center to catch the Red Wings Alumni team lending a hand to the Salvation Army's Bed and Bread program tonight at 7 PM: Detroit Red Wings Alumni and members of three youth hockey leagues will take to the...

Crain’s Detroit Business: Ilitches may want State of Michigan to own JLA’s follow-on rink

Crain's Detroit Business's Bill Shea promised a blockbuster on Sunday evening, and he's delivered. According to Shea, Ilitch Holdings and Olympia Entertainment, who do not own but instead lease Joe Louis Arena from the City of Detroit, are proposing that that their follow-on rink be owned by and leased from the State of Michigan: The Ilitch family, which owns the...

Wild vs Red Wings Recap: 1.25.2013

This is the type of performance a lot of us expected from the Red Wings when the season started. Good offense, shaky defense, and timely stops by Howard. Early in the first I really thought this was going to be a blowout. Detroit went an entire 1:30 of a 5 on 3 without a shot. Meanwhile, the Wild were playing solid puck possession hockey and peppering Howard with shots. Howard...

Video blog: Holmstrom through the years

My memories of Tomas Holmstrom -- from "dog yard" to "Goldilocks."

Red Wings 5, Wild 3

Henrik Zetterberg snapped a tie midway through the second period, and Todd Bertuzzi scored his second goal of the game early in the third to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Pavel Datsyuk, who assisted on Zetterberg's goal, put Detroit ahead by two late in the second period. Datsyuk also set up Bertuzzi on his second goal that...

Todd Bertuzzi Lights the Lamp Twice as Detroit Red Wings Down Minnesota Wild: Video

The banged-up Detroit Red Wings received the help of some reinforcements on Friday night, as Todd Bertuzzi, Darren Helm and Jakub Kindl all made their 2013 regular-season debuts. And Bertuzzi wasted no time making an impact, popping home two goals in Detroit’s 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. Bertuzzi’s first goal of the night came just 55 seconds into the second period — and...

Things just got a whole lot tougher for the Red Wings as Darren Helm’s had a ‘setback’

Urgh. I was wondering why I was tossing and turning during my pre-game nap, but ahead of tonight's game between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks (7 PM ET, FSD/CSN Chicago/WXYT AM), RedWingsFeed provides us with bad news from Fox Sports Detroit's Trevor Thompson... #RedWings Patrick Eaves in tonight, Darren Helm out with a setback with his back. Jonathan...

Will Kindl Hear The Wake-Up Call?

from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front, Kindl will be paired on the second power play unit with Brendan Smith. For Kindl it may be his last chance to make this team has a regular. “That’s another good thing about injures, other people get opportunities,” Babcock said. “If you grab hold of it you get to play a long, long time. Everybody comes in has nobody and...

Red Wings-Wild quick take: it wasn’t pretty, but it was good

The Detroit Red Wings played like two different teams--or was it three or four?--en route to a slightly sloppy but particularly satisfying 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday. I'll write more about the game I described as, "Dating a fat girl who 'tries harder'" on Twitter in a minute, but I'd like to hear what you thought about what may or may not...

Red Wings-Blackhawks game-day updates: Ericsson’s slated to return for Wings; Hawks didn’t skate

In theory, anyway, the Detroit Red Wings' uphill battle against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight (7 PM EST, FSD/CSN Chicago, AM 1270) was supposed to yield very little in terms of game-day news as NHL.com's Brian Hedger reported that neither team would hold a morning skate (the Blackhawks will be playing their sixth game in nine nights this evening, and the Wings aren't...

GDT - Game 4:  Red Wings (1-2) host Wild (2-1)  7:30

Detroyet fans fear not, your Coach said:  "We're a team in flux right now. But, we're going to be better. We'll be just fine.''  Shockingly, the reasons for Babock's optimism escape me.   The Wings cannot score, 1.33 G/G (28) and cannot keep the puck out of their net 3.67 GA/G (26).  Special teams are a freaking disaster.  0-15 on the PP, which...

Red Wings-Wild wrap-up and overnight report: Wings slowly finding their footing?

If you only watched the Minnesota Wild out-shoot the Red Wings 11-6 in the first period of what turned out to be an ugly but livable-withable 5-3 Red Wings victory, or watched the Wings take two of their eight(!) penalties within the first ten minutes of said first period, you would have been forgiven for assuming that the Wings were on their way to yet another predictable 2013 season...

When Does Panic Set In?

Craig Custance of ESPN answered some emails.. Do you think it is a stretch to judge teams making the playoffs based on the first three games? And when do you think in the season we will see who will make the playoffs based on the shortened schedule? This seems like a good time to point out that the team that won the Stanley Cup in 1995 during that 48-game season didn'...
