Columbus Blue Jackets
With the fate of their coach and general manager potentially hanging in the balance, the Columbus Blue Jackets were fighting with their backs against the wall on Sunday night against the Anaheim Ducks.
So after Bobby Ryan answered Rick Nash's goal to tie the game in the first period, feisty Derek Dorsett got his team and the crowd going with this spirited bout against Sheldon Brookbank.
Solid scrap between two players that had exchanged headlocks in a game last season; but they weren't done. Neither were their teammates.
At 17:01 of the first period, Andrew Cogliano and Kris Russell met in a visor-vs.-visor fight — the third career scrap for Cogliano and the fifth for Russell, in case you couldn't tell.
"For a couple of guys who don't fight very often, they did a pretty good job of tying each other up for a while." This is not what you want to hear after a hockey fight. But hey, 'round of applause for the effort, and for showing Mike Milbury that man...

The club also optioned left wing Jean-Francois Jacques down to Syracuse.

Columbus 3 - Anaheim 1
After a night without Mason and the 5-2 loss to Chicago the Blue Jackets bounced back. Like every season the Pacific coast gave us an early win. What was the key to this? Takeaways. Currently Columbus leads the league in takeaways, just like the win against Detroit this last game against the Ducks was made possible by way of intercepting and rushing with the...
There was a controversial play that occurred in tonight’s Predators victory over the Anaheim Ducks. With the Preds leading 1-0 at 12:41 of the first period, Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin delivered a blind-side hit on Predators forward Mike Fisher, which sparked an ensuing scuffle. Fisher missed the rest of the game with an upper-body injury. On the play, Beauchemin was...
The Columbus Blue Jackets are still searching for a way to put teams away late, something the Anaheim Ducks never got a chance to do in their most recent outing.
The Blue Jackets are slowly starting to realize they might win more games playing a combative, in-your-face style of hockey. Hopefully it's not too late. Rick Nash, rookie Ryan Johansen and Fedor Tyutin each scored for the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 3-1 victory against the Anaheim Ducks, for only their second win.
Sometimes the NHL schedule does you a favor, like Saturday when the Hawks get an immediate chance to make amends for wasting our and their time the night before in Carolina. And they get to do it against the league's worst team at home.
You can't ask for a curveball that's hanging more than this.
Columbus has had a woeful start to the season. They're 1-8-1. They...

Playing without the suspended Daniel Carcillo, the Blackhawks closed the second period tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-2 on Saturday night at United Center.
AggressiveThe Jackets win again on home ice against a solid opponent. The team downed the Kings 4-2 in a chippy, fight-filled game. Mason faced only 19 shots as the team has hunkered down. Hopefully the inspired play will continue as Columbus has a long way to go to even get to a competitive level in the tough Western conference. Coach Scott Arniel "When we play with a little...
