from Frank Seravalli of Frequent Flyers,
Flyers forward Harry Zolnierczyk was whistled for a 5-minute major “kneeing” penalty with under 30 seconds to play in Wednesday’s 4-1 shellacking after laying out Washington’s Mathieu Perreault in open ice.
Oates’ star player, Alex Ovechkin, took exception to the hit and tangled with Zac Rinaldo.
“It was like, 30 seconds left, 4-1 lead,” Ovechkin said. “Why you have to kill the guy? It was dirty.”
Ovechkin’s coach didn’t feel the same way, more or less saying Ovechkin’s opinion perfectly describes his entire, unimpressive game on Wednesday.
“I don’t think it’s dirty at all,” Oates said. “I think it’s a product of our whole game. There is 30 seconds left, the game’s over, and ‘Matty’ thought he could stickhandle through the team. It’s not what we do, all of us. The atmosphere clearly dropped in the game, it was over and you think you can bang one through the entire team. You just can't. It'
BEST OF MAXIM
From the replay, it does look like the Flyers forward Harry Zolnierczyk catches Capitals forward Mathieu Perreault with a "dirty" knee check, just like Taylor Hall hit Cal Clutterbuck. It's a bit of a different angle so it's not as cut an dry in my opinion. If I was a betting man, and I am, I think a suspension is coming for Zolnierczyk
I would imagine that ...
NBC Sports Network NHL analyst Mike Milbury completely trashed Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin for his lack of effort during Wednesday night's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. During the second intermission, Milbury said that Oveckin "should be ashamed of himself" for his "awful display of hockey" during the first two periods. Among the lowlights...
In the waning moments of last night’s game, Flyers forward Harry Zolnierczy was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for a hit that he put on Capitals forward Mathieu Perreault. Apparently, Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates is fine with the hit and didn’t think it was a dirty hit. After reviewing the hit again, I guess, I am fine, with the hit too then.
It’s no secret that Alex Ovechkin’s effort and output this season have been hit-or-miss. But to say he’s a “disgusting” “baby” with “no fight” who should be “embarrassed” might be going a bit far. That didn’t stop NBC’s Mike Milbury during intermission in last night’s loss:
Alex Ovechkin has garnered the affection of many hockey fans and media members over the years, but Mike Milbury is not one of them.
That’s because the superstar is once again not living up to the hype in 2013. The Caps are tied for last place in their conference, and during the second intermission of Wednesday night’s matchup against the Flyers, Milbury didn’t hold anything...
For reasons that are abundantly clear here. Giggling young ladies make the KHL a special place to work.
Mike Milbury ripping on Alex Ovechkin isn't exactly a new thing. The NBC commentator seems to love calling out Ovechkin whenever he's given the opportunity. The second intermission between Washington and Philadelphia was no exception, as Milbury went on quite the rant about the struggling star.
Maybe aside from the unnecessary "act like a man" comment,...
As any hockey fan should know, Mike Milbury is certainly not one to keep his opinions to himself. He’s made Tommy Salo cry, beaten up a fan with a shoe, allegedly assaulted a 12-year old, and once even referred the entire country of Russia as “Eurotrash.” His latest target was Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, who according to Milbury “should be ashamed of himself...
Mike Milbury is one of the most incompetent team executives the NHL has ever seen. His reign of error with the New York Islanders became part of the league’s folklore. Many fans could have done a better job running that team. Some children might have fared better. Perhaps even a primate or two at the zoo would have known better to trade Roberto Luongo, draft Rick DiPietro first...
I’m not a Mike Milbury fan, not even a little bit. He was a completely incompetent General Manager with the New York Islanders and so it is tough to take him seriously, but he in this instance he is 100% right. Alexander Ovechkin looked terrible last night, and was playing very lackadaisical hockey in his own zone and showed little effort at any point. As Milbury said for...
Tonight during the second intermission of the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers game, resident knucklehead Mike Milbury, went on an epic rant about Alex Ovechkin. As a life long New York Islanders fan, I have nothing but hate for this man. But for once, he made the right move. Exposing Ovechkin for the player he has become.
Ovechkin has become an extremely lazy...
I had the privelege of once again being a guest on the XM NHL's War Room Review today, as Mick Kern, Peter Berce, Eric Gage and I discussed all things NHL-related over the past week of hockey. Ryan O'Reilly, Alex Ovechkin, coach of the year candidates, realignment and, of course, a little Habs.
Alex Ovechkin makes $9,538,462 a year to play hockey for the Washington Capitals and I think Mike Milbury is right to call him out on National television, he played like a bag of ass tonight. If I was the owner of the Washington Capitals I would be upset. If I was a team mate of Ovechkin I would be upset.
