Marty Turco Clears Waivers, Practices With Bruins on Wednesday

Let the Marty Turco era in Boston begin. Turco cleared waivers on Wednesday and joined his new teammates at practice at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington, Mass. The netminder was wearing a red helmet and was at the center of the team stretch at center ice, according to Bruins reporter Douglas Flynn. Turco has 273 career wins and a 2.35 goals-against average in 538 career games...

Marty Turco With Team Canada Mask At First Boston Bruins Practice

Bruins Spoked B, Team Canada Mask A.B. I love Turco rocking the Team Canada mask at his first Boston Bruins practice. First, it’s a statement to the team & staff: “I was Canada’s goalie in the ’06 Winter Olympics. This aint my first rodeo. Let’s go win some games.” I Love it. Second, the vast majority of Bruins players are from Canada. They could care less about Timmy...

Marty Turco Happy to Pass Up Vacation in Italy for Chance to Get Back to Work in NHL With Bruins

WILMINGTON, Mass. –- Marty Turco might be the only guy ever to be happy to pass up a chance to go to Rome to spend a day in Wilmington. The Bruins newest goalie was all set to begin a family vacation in Italy this week, resigned to the fact that he would not get back to the NHL this season after spending the past decade in the league. Those plans changed when injuries to Tuukka...

Turcogate: Is someone trying to steal a backup goalie?

The signing of Marty Turco just got interesting with this tweet by Darren Dreger of TSN: Some talk of Marty Turco not clearing waivers tomorrow. If claimed by another team,he can't play. Bruins will use him in games if he clears. — Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) March 7, 2012 Who the **** would steal a backup goalie coming off waivers, when said team wouldn't be able...

Marty Turco Hopes to Become Member of Bruins, Ready to Contribute Down Stretch (Video)

Goaltender Marty Turco still has to clear waivers to officially become a member of the Boston Bruins, but the 36-year-old was present outside the B's locker room following the team's 5-4 victory over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday. Turco discussed the possibility of joining the Bruins, saying that he hopes to do so soon, and that he's ready to contribute in whatever fashion...

Jack Edwards Mailbag: Marty Turco Expected to Be Stopgap in Bruins' Quest for 'Port Playoffs'

The Bruins have found themselves struggling to put together a string of wins as of late, and any attempts to do so going forward won't be easy. The B's have been hit pretty hard by injury, with the latest injury coming to backup goaltender Tuukka Rask. The club announced earlier this week that he'll be out 4-6 weeks, so to add some depth the B's have signed Marty...

Bruins' Quest for Help in Goal at Mercy of Rivals With Marty Turco Needing to Clear Waivers to Join Team

Until Wednesday afternoon, the Bruins will find themselves in the one place no team ever wants to be: At the mercy of their rivals. The Bruins have been hit hard by injuries of late, including a serious blow to the most important position on the ice. They've lost goalie Tuukka Rask for 4-6 weeks with an abdominal and groin strain. With their top netminder in Providence also hurt...

Bruins Mailbag: Marty Turco Solid Pickup for B's, But Tim Thomas Still Key to Another Stanley Cup Run

The Bruins continued their rollercoaster ride through the second half of the season, beating the Devils, dropping back-to-back games to the Islanders and Rangers, then bouncing back with a victory in Toronto. The inconsistent results continue to be troubling, especially as the injuries on the club continue to mount, but the effort has been better of late. The Bruins also got a little...

Michael Hutchinson Returned to Providence with Marty Turco Now in Fold, While Max Sauve Recalled with Benoit Pouliot Hurting

After watching Marty Turco practice for the first with the Bruins on Wednesday afternoon, coach Claude Julien wasn't sure how long it would take for the veteran to be ready to face NHL competition again. But Julien was pretty certain that the Bruins would not be carrying three goaltenders for long now that Turco had cleared waivers and joined the club. That proved accurate as...

Boston Signs Marty Turco

The Boston Bruins have arguably the best goaltending in the NHL.  Tim Thomas is a two time Vezina Trophy winner in 2009 and 2011.  In the year between Thomas’s victories, Tuukka Rask, his backup, posted the top saves percentage in the league.  In fact a Boston goalie has had the top saves percentage in the league in each of the last three seasons.  When Rask suffered a lower...

Marty Turco Will Hellp Alleviate Pressure Off Tim Thomas in Net, Jordan Caron Stimulates Bruins Offense (Video)

Injuries have been an achilles heel for the Bruins throughout much of the 2011-12 season. But a few fresh faces have already begun to help alleviate some of the pressure building from those players lost to injury. Marty Turco, who has been playing hockey in Austria for much of the year, just had his first practice with the team on Wednesday and anticipates filling the void left in...

Randy Moss, Jaromir Jagr Resurgences Suggest Marty Turco's Absence From NHL Ranks Nothing to Worry About (Video)

So, Marty Turco might be on his way to Boston. Or, if he doesn't clear waivers, he could be headed somewhere else. For many Bruins fans, whether Turco ends up between the pipes in Beantown might be secondary to whether or not he will be able to perform capably. After all, he's been playing in Europe and hasn't faced NHL-caliber opponents in some time. NESN Nation'...

Tim Thomas' Regular-Season Workload Will Be Tough Balancing Act for Bruins, Marty Turco or Not (Video)

Tim Thomas came up huge for the Bruins when it mattered most during the team's Stanley Cup run. This season, Boston will need their goaltender to come up big again, especially while playing without backup goalie Tuukka Rask. With the No. 2 goalie spot up for grabs at the moment, it stands to reason that Thomas will see an increased workload during a very busy stretch for the...

Bruins Goalie Decision Welcome Distraction Compared to Worrying About Team's Overall Play (Video)

We weren't sure heading into Saturday's game whether Tim Thomas or Marty Turco would get the call in net for the Bruins. Turns out it's going to be Thomas, but having uncertainty in goal is actually a welcome question mark considering the many that have been surronding this team as of late. NESN Nation's Dan Duquette is glad to worry about the team's netminder...
