With the start of the hockey season just around the corner, hockey fans everywhere are rejoicing in anticipation for a shortened, yet exciting season. Although this season may be different for all 30 teams around the league, it is especially different for New York Rangers fans. A moderately successful team before last season, the Rangers found themselves the pre-ranked #1 by many NHL experts, only to have the lockout loom over the team and its fans.
Why the sudden high expectations?
The easy answer would be the addition of star forward Rick Nash. But the Rangers have become a solid, nitty-gritty team, whose work ethic pushes each player to the brink. The heart, soul, and backbone of this success: HENRIK LUNDQVIST.
Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist is the key to the Rangers success. The Swedish born goalie, whose twin brother Joel also plays professional hockey in their native Sweden, displays incredible athleticism in his unorthodox butterfly style of play. “King Henrik” is a 3-time All-Star, 2012 Vezina Trophy Winner (NHL’s Best Goalie), 4-time Vezina nominee, record-holder for most shutouts by a goalie in Madison Square Garden, and Olympic record-holder for most consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
