Found December 17, 2013 on The Detroit Sports Site:
Tomas Jurco provided a little bit of a silver lining in what quickly became another horrible night for the Detroit Red Wings. Playing in just his second game of the season and the third of his career, Jurco lit the lamp early against the Anaheim Ducks — thanks to a pretty feed by Drew Miller.

Slumping Wings practice at Comerica Park

DETROIT -- After the Red Wings had finished their public practice on the outdoor rink at Comerica Park, Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk summed up the weather conditions and the recent fortunes of his hockey team. No sun in Detroit; theres no sunny days, Datsyuk said Wednesday. Maybe, if we start winning, it will be sunny. Datsyuk tried to joke and remain positive, but the overall...

Tomas Jurco scores his first NHL goal

The Red Wings are predictably down 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks at present, but the Wings blew a 1-goal lead because Tomas Jurco scored his first NHL goal--and it was a beauty:

PHOTO: Jonas Gustavsson’s Winter Classic Mask Unveiled

Jimmy Howard’s status for the Winter Classic on New Year’s Day is very much up in the air, so Jonas Gustavsson could get the starting nod against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Either way, he’ll be sporting a new helmet for the annual (except in case of a lockout) event: FIRST LOOK: Jonas Gustavsson's #winterclassic goalie mask by @artofdave! Awwww… Petr Mrazek’s Winter Classic pads are too cute!

Former NHLer and Metro Detroit native Brent Johnson tweeted out a picture of what will apparently be Red Wings/Griffins goaltender Petr Mrazek’s pads for the upcoming Winter Classic. And instead of trying to intimidate the opposition, Mrazek is looking to steal the hearts of which ever team (Maple Leafs or Marlies) he plays.

Detroit Red Wings Hold Winter Classic Practice Outdoors at Comerica Park

The Detroit Red Wings took practice outside on Wednesday, testing out the ice at Comerica Park, where the upcoming Winter Festival will be held. The Wings won’t play at the Tigers’ stadium, of course — their Jan. 1 matchup with the Maple Leafs is set for Michigan Stadium. A look at some shots from today’s practice. Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek has the cutest holiday pads for outdoor game

As the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs get ready to play in this year’s Winter Classic at the Big House in Ann Arbor, their respective AHL affiliates are also gearing up to play an outdoor game at Comerica Park on December 30th. In anticipation of that matchup – the “Winter Festival” game – Petr Mrazek, goalie for the Grand Rapids Griffins (the Wings’ AHL affiliate...

Red Wings off-day news: injury updates; on Jurco, Yzerman, the Hockeytown Winter Festival and Frk

I actually managed to get some sleep (rare!) thanks to Paul holding down the fort (and the Wings won't practice today; they will, however, make a significant charitable donation to Detroit's Clark Park rink at 3 PM, and again, the team practices outdoors at Comerica Park on Wednesday), but I've woken up to predictable news regarding the Red Wings' injury front from...

At This Point In Time

via Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News, “We’re a better team than that. It was embarrassing at times,” defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. “We were all over the place and nowhere to be found. We didn’t generate a lot, and there were way too many chances for them.” “I liked the way we started, things were going good for about three minutes,” coach Mike Babcock said...

Video: Kyle Quincey Ejected for Boarding Ducks’ Ryan Getzlaf

The injury-depleted Detroit Red Wings lost another body Tuesday when defenseman Kyle Quincey was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf. The two players were chasing a puck into the corner when Quincey shoved Getzlaf in the back, sending him tumbling face-first into the boards. Getzlaf left the ice bleeding, though he did return early...

HBO posts first episode of 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic: Toronto Maple Leafs v Detroit Red Wings

Via RedWingsFeed, I didn't think that HBO would do this, but they've posted the first episode of 24/7, Road to the Winter Classic: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings on their YouTube channel:

Masterton Leader

About three weeks ago I picked Darren Helm of the Detroit Red Wings as the Masterton Trophy leader.  At that time I noted he was in a tight race with Manny Malhotra of Carolina.  Both overcame significant injury that kept them from contributing to their teams last season.  Their injury problems go back a couple years at least.  Both have made significant comebacks this season...
