Earlier in the year I got a chance to sit down and watch an episode MSG's Behind the Bench series with head coach John Tortorella and former coach Mike Keenan. They talk about a variety of topics and offer the perspective from "behind the bench", but the best part of the show is when we are taken into the film room with Torts. I instantly fell in love with the series from that point on.
A new episode of Behind the Bench premiered last night, and this time Tortorella gave video instruction on the Rangers' strategy of defensemen joining the offensive rush. I know many of you question this and I think this video does a fabulous job detailing exactly how it should be executed. I'm also a hockey nerd so maybe that's just me, but take a look at this:
* The Islanders defeated the Penguins last night, 5-3, to sweep the home-and-home series, which means the Rangers now remain atop the Eastern Conference by five points. They will have the opportunity to expand that to seven points tonight against the Habs.
New York's magic number to clinch first is now 5. If the Rangers finish 2-3-0 on the season, the Pens would have to go 5-0-0 and win out.
