Viktor Stalberg was forced to leave Monday’s game 3 between the Blackhawks and Red Wings after missing on a hit and going directly head first into the endboards. Not surprisingly, Stalberg stayed down after taking the boards to the head, but somehow was able to skate off the ice under his own power and went directly to the locker room. Being the hockey player that he is, Stalberg returned to the ice a short time after the injury. [Thanks to Guyism For the image and .GIF] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Hit ticks off Wings; Blackhawks fume over disallowed goal

DETROIT -- In the Chicago Blackhawks' minds, it was the turning point of Game 3. For the Detroit Red Wings, it was only fair. With the Wings leading 2-0 in the third period Monday night, Chicago defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson knocked Johan Franzen down along the boards in the Blackhawks' end. While Franzen lay crumpled to the ice, the Blackhawks were headed the other way...

We’ve got two Blackhawks down at the Joe… As the Red Wing youngsters continue to gain experience throughout the playoffs, Gustav Nyquist turned Brent Seabrook and Corey Crawford inside out to put Detroit ahead 1-0 in the second period. h/t: World of Isaac

WATCH: Patrick Kane’s breakaway pulls Chicago within one

Patrick Kane (courtesy of predlines.com) In a losing effort, Patrick Kane still dazzled fans and viewers alike with a breakaway goal in the third period in Game 3 against the Detroit Red Wings. After a big hit along the boards left Red Wings forward Johan Franzen injured during the play, Kane took a pass from Duncan Keith, flew behind two Red Wing defenders and wristed a beauty past...

Chicago’s the ‘nation’s’ TV team?

You may take the Chicago Tribune's Ed Sherman's analysis of the Chicago Blackhawks' national TV footprint for what you will: The Blackhawks are as close to a national team as any in the NHL. Look no further than NBC. The network is riding the Hawks hard during the playoffs. The reason is simple: Ratings. The Hawks' local numbers from the nation's No....

Red Wings beat Blackhawks to take 2-1 series lead

The Chicago Blackhawks were controlling the puck and dominating play early in the second period. It took all of a half-minute for the Detroit Red Wings to swing the momentum. Gustav Nyquist and Drew Miller scored 31 seconds apart midway through a previously scoreless game, helping the Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 3-1 on Monday night for a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference second...

Kerry Fraser says referees got non-calls right on Blackhawks’ goal and non-goal against Red Wings

Since the Chicago Blackhawks' Patrick Kane scored the 2-1 goal (in the Red Wings' 3-1 victory last night) after Johan Franzen was boarded at the opposite end of the ice by Niklas Hjamarsson, but were denied another when Viktor Stalberg's shot and game-tying goal on Jimmy Howard was negated because the referees deemed Andrew Shaw to be interfering with Jimmy Howard'...

From the NHL: STARTING TIME SET FOR GAME 5 OF BLACKHAWKS-RED WINGS SERIES NEW YORK (May 19, 2013) – The National Hockey League today announced that the starting time for Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinal series between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings has been set for 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 25, in Chicago. Wings and Blackhawks ‘won’t be exchanging Christmas cards’ as Detroit takes 2-1 series lead

The Red Wings took at 2-1 series lead Monday night after a 3-1 win over the No. 1 seeded Chicago Blackhawks in a game that got very chippy late. With just minutes remaining Andrew Shaw and Bryan Bickell began to lose their cool as Bickell took a cross checking minor that put his team down a guy while Shaw was sent to the showers early for instigating. And speaking of Bickell, his...

Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 3 quick take: take your anger and shove it into the net

I get it. The Hawks will look at the goalposts and at the waved-off goal by Andrew Shaw and insist, despite the penalty disparity, that they should still be playing the Red Wings, who managed to hang on and defeat them 3-1. I get that the media will insist that Shaw was pushed into the crease by Jakub Kindl, and that it should at least be 2-2--Puck Daddy already has the play of...

Pavel Datsyuk snipes Corey Crawford

After a controversial goalie interference call waved off the Chicago Blackhawks tying goal, Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk came back a few moments later and ripped this beauty of a shot past Corey Crawford.  The goal was absolutely amazing and nearly identical to his goal in game 4 against the Anaheim Ducks.  Needless to say it seems to be Datsyuk’s go-to shot and plenty...

Red Wings take Game 3, Blackhawks' composure

There were hockey pundits who thought the Red Wings would get swept by the No. 1 Blackhawks, arguably the best Blackhawks team ever. After a tough seven-game series against the mighty mighty Ducks, I will admit that a let down against the Blackhawks from a team that had, really, already exceeded expectations didn't seem completely unreasonable. Well, following a 3-1 win on...

Danny Cleary smashes his face into goal vs. Blackhawks

The Detroit Redwings' Danny Cleary smashed his face into the goal post against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 3 wrap-up: out-Winged, out-Hawked, outworked

The Detroit Red Wings' 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of their second round series was somewhere between a Gustav Nyquist-style master stroke and a Muhammad Ali "rope-a-dope," including its share of controversy and enough post-game chatter to merit its own multimedia post. In terms of the wrap-up thereof, I cannot help but start at what many believe was...
