The Washington Capitals acquired forward Casey Wellman from the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Zach Hamill Thursday. The trade was announced by vice president and general manager George McPhee.
Wellman, 25, has registered 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 37 games this season for the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL (American Hockey League). He ranked third in points for the Rampage.

The California native has recorded 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 41 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild from 2009-2012, and has recorded 105 points (44 goals, 61 assists) in 136 career AHL games with the Rampage, Houston Aeros and the Connecticut Whale.
The 6’0”, 185-pound forward was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Wild in March of 2010.
Hamill has recorded 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 40 games this season with the Capitals’ affiliate, Hershey Bears.
