Capitals Hill:
The Washington Capitals Organization have reached a deal with arguably one of the best up-and-coming defense man in the NHL. The new contract is a two-year extension to his current contract estimated at around $2.57 million. This is less than Alzner was looking for, and more than what the Capitals were looking to deal out. However, the deal presents less of a cap hit than Alzner’s current contract, and the Capitals need to keep an eye on their Salary Cap space. As of now they are sitting about $1.5 million above the cap.
In Alzner’s first full season with the Capital’s in the 2010-2011 season he recorded twelve points, two goals and 10 assists, and had a plus/minus rating of +14. He’s not one to put up many points throughout the season, but his style is what Washington’s front office is looking for.
