The Philadelphia Flyers reunited Private First Class Matthew Windish with his family by wrapping him in a life size G.I. Joe box and giving it to them as a surprise last night. It is the best video you'll see today. Mom: "I was surprised. First I thought he was coming home, but then I didn’t think he was going to. I just thought it was going to be a video, but when they opened up that box and I saw his face… we have missed him so much this past year. It was an awesome surprise." • Very nice, and a classy move from a Philadelphia team....the eagles organization and it's fan base should take note about how to be classy.

Chris VandeVelde Signed by Flyers; Tye McGinn Sent to Adirondack

Image via Tye McGinn has to be the unluckiest hockey player alive right now. After a third call-up to the team just this season alone, and without seeing any game action due to an illness, McGinn was sent down to the Adirondack Phantoms today, and the Flyers signed Chris VandeVelde to an NHL contract with the intention of recalling him. ROSTER UPDATE: #Flyers loan Tye...

Brayden Schenn Fined by NHL

Flyers forward Brayden Schenn was fined by the NHL today for his hit on Kris Versteeg of the Chicago Blackhawks. Schenn’s hit was a bad one, directly to Versteeg’s head. As he skated away after the hit, Schenn tapped Versteeg’s back with his stick as if to acknowledge the wrongness of the hit. The actual number comes out to $2,230.77 for Schenn, which is the maximum amount...

Giroux, Mason lead Flyers over Canadiens

Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux scored goals, Steve Mason made 20 saves, and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Thursday night. Jakub Voracek had two assists, and Giroux also had an assist to help the Flyers snap a three-game losing streak and extend their home winning streak to six games. They were coming off a 2-3-1 trip in which they finished up 0-2-1...

Flyers Goalie Steve Mason Cross-Checks Brian Gionta, Gets Tackled By Brendan Gallagher (GIF)

Steve Mason has been excellent in net for the Flyers this season, and at the end of Thursday’s game against the Canadiens, Philadelphia’s No. 1 goalie showed that he’s not afraid to be physical with opposing forwards. As time expired in the third period, Canadiens winger Brian Gionta approached Mason and was cross-checked up high by the Flyers goaltender. Second-year forward...

Flyers Finally Come Home

The Flyers will return home tonight to face the Montreal Canadiens after a tough loss last night in Chicago to the Blackhawks 7-2. For the second time on this trip the second period doomed the Flyers.  If you thought the performance in the 2nd period against Dallas on Saturday when they gave up four goals was bad enough, this one was worse.  Chicago scored twice in 29 seconds in...

Putting On The Foil with @jsaquella: Measuring Sticks, Randoms and Steve Mason

The man most of you probably know from social media as @jsaquella will bring you his wide-ranging opinion and commentary on the Orange and Black in his column Putting On The Foil. Wayne Simmonds Just Took a Shot in a Bad Place

Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds just took a shot from Erik Gustafsson right in the groin during the Flyers-Canadiens game. Here are some reactions: Wayne Simmonds just caught a point shot in the nuts. Steve Coates: “That’s a tough area.” *slow clap* — David Straub (@dps2002) December 13, 2013 Ouch Wayne — FanSince09 (@FanSince09) December 13, 2013 Simmonds hurt by a puck...

2014 Draft Eligibles: Red Deer defender Haydn Fleury should be on the Flyers’ radar

There’s snow and ice on the ground and the temperatures outside are frigid, but that shouldn’t stop us from thinking about the month of June. I’m not talking about sunny days and the beach, although, that would be nice. I’m talking about the 2014 NHL draft right here in Philadelphia. It’s not the most talented draft class I’ve seen as it’s probably one of the weaker...

Alexei Emelin gets tossed after delivering an elbow to Steve Downie’s head

Montreal Canadien Alexei Emelin might be the next man in line to hear from Brendan Shanahan after getting tossed from tonight’s game for delivering an elbow on Philadelphia Flyer Steve Downie. Whether this hit actually deserves a suspension is questionable but with Shanahan you never know.   The post Alexei Emelin gets tossed after delivering an elbow to Steve Downie’s head...

Flyers Move On From Blowout The Night Before, Stifle Canadiens 2-1

Good to see the Flyers aren’t dwelling on that beating. Utilizing a couple of slightly revamped lines, the Philadelphia Flyers kept the visiting Montreal Canadiens in check through out the course of 60 minutes, and held on to win 2-1. The game wasn’t without some chippiness, as the Canadiens somehow forgot the fundamentals of checking without keeping their elbows down, and...

Video- Alexei Emelin Elbow On Steve Downie

5 for elbowing and a game for Emelin.

Final Observations: Philadelphia Flyers 2, Montreal Canadiens 1

Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images O’Connor’s Observations For maybe the first time this season, the Philadelphia Flyers turned in a full sixty minute effort. The Flyers were not outshot in any period, dominated in the puck possession metrics, and did not even appear tired late despite playing in the second game of a back-to-back. Michael Raffl was moved to the first line...

Flyers Dealt Embarrassing Loss By Blackhawks In Final Game Of Road Trip

Ok, who else besides me is glad that’s over? The Flyers decided it was more fun to make me look like Nostradamus in reverse by essentially going 2-4 (overtime loss is still a loss), instead of 4-2 on this recent 6 game road trip that felt at the end more like a 60 game road trip, and the final results were nothing short of appalling. The first line is in complete disarray...
