Watch: Rangers' Matt Rempe delivers thunderous, controversial hit

New York Rangers forward Matt Rempe has become a wildly popular player among the team's fans in a very short period of time. Mostly due to his physical play and willingness to fight every single one of the NHL's heavyweights.

One of the problems, however, is that his big hits tend to skate right on the line between clean and illegal, and it has gotten him into a lot of penalty trouble and already resulted in one suspension.

He delivered another such hit in Game 3 of their first-round series against the Washington Capitals on Friday night.

As Capitals defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk played the puck, Rempe came flying in and delivered a huge hit. van Riemsdyk went flying into the boards, while it was pretty clear there was some head contact on the play. A lot of it, actually.

Rempe was given a two-minute minor for interference on the play, which is the minimum that should be called there as van Riemsdyk had already made a play on the puck and was no longer in possession of it.
The question now becomes whether or not the NHL's Department of Player Safety will get involved for potential discipline.

The head contact will definitely get their attention, and given that Rempe has already been suspended within the past few weeks any discipline could be severe for him and the Rangers.

On the other hand, trying to figure out what the Department of Player Safety will do is nothing more than guesswork. Especially come playoff time.
