HARTFORD, December 20, 2011: Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the parent New York Rangers have reassigned defenseman Sam Klassen to the Whale from its ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Road Warriors.
A second-year pro out of the Western Hockey League, Klassen has skated in 23 games with the Road Warriors this season, registering one goal and four assists for five points, along with 26 penalty minutes.
Klassen, who stands 6-2, weighs 199 pounds and hails from Watrous, Saskatchewan, played three games with the Whale last year, going scoreless with four penalty minutes. In 66 ECHL games as a rookie with Greenville, Klassen posted three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, plus 80 PIM. He tied for second among Road Warrior blueliners in assists and ranked third among team defensemen in points. Klassen’s plus/minus of +16 was good for a tie for tops on the club for a defenseman, and tied him for fifth overall on the team.
Klassen signed as a free a...

Steve Eminger: Eminger left Saturday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes in the second period after separating his shoulder on a hard hit that he took into the boards. Head coach John Tortorella said today that Eminger will miss eight to ten weeks...
The Rangers got rivalry week started off right with a 4-1 defeat of the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Prudential Center. This wasn’t a perfect effort for the Rangers by any means, but an explosive third period, which saw the team score three unanswered goals, carried them to victory in the first meeting with their cross-river rivals this season.
Mike Rupp and Cam Janssen...
… I was very happy to read this! Henrik continues to be a total a class act. We should be very proud that he represents our New York Rangers.
I get some flack that I don’t have enough coverage of hockey on Mentality Magazine. To that I say, here you go.

CBS Sports drops the Rangers one spot to #5 in their most recent power rankings...5. Rangers - The Rangers needed every 10th of a second on the clock to beat the Coyotes on Saturday night as Brad Richards' buzzer-beater crossed the goal line just before time expired in the third period. It's been that kind of season for the Rangers.ESPN.com (8), The Hockey News (6) and TSN...
Per Andrew Gross, the lines at practice were as follows:
Artem Anisimov-Derek Stepan-Marian Gaborik
Brandon Dubinsky-Brad Richards-Ryan Callahan
Ruslan Fedotenko-Mike Rupp-Brandon Prust
Carl Hagelin-Brian Boyle-John Mitchell
Also per Gross, the “spare” forwards of Wojtek Wolski, Erik Christensen, and Sean Avery were skating together as a fifth line. It’s kind of ironic when...

Michael Del Zotto, a third-year defenseman, is flourishing this season and Brad Richards’s guidance is a primary reason.
For all the praise being heaped on fill ins like Bickel, Erixon, and Stralman. For all the kudos being thrown at the Rangers and what a great job they do backchecking, blocking shots, getting in passing lanes, etc. The cold hard truth is this. This team will only go as far as Henrik Lundqvist will take them. Tonight, he took them to a 4-1 win that is a very, very deceiving score...
All this time, yet the tide in the Battle of the Hudson still flows full flood toward Manhattan.
Again, it was Henrik Lundqvist keeping the Rangers boat afloat, while Martin Brodeur’s ship ultimately swamped.
It was a night of maximum efforts, attacks that created chaos, shots that rang pipe...
Marian Gaborik snapped a third-period tie with the first of his two goals and then sealed New York's win with an empty-netter as the Rangers beat the New Jersey Devils, 4-1, Tuesday night. Gaborik, who reached 600 NHL points with his first goal, also helped set up Artem Anisimov's second-period tally that tied the score, 1-1.

Steve Eminger will be out 8 to 10 weeks while recuperating from a separated right shoulder sustained in Saturday's 3-2 victory in Phoenix, and Jeff Woywitka was unable to practice Monday after being struck in the ankle with a shot later that game.
1) Another staged fight to start the game. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. Maybe it’s hypocritical, but to me they don’t seem as senseless when it’s archrivals playing. I did think Rupp had some good, solid hits, though he wasn’t credited with any, officially.
2) I liked the Brandon Dubinsky-Kelly Clarkson bout better because it was an actual hockey fight...
