The difference between the Predators team that played Sunday and the team that took the ice tonight was staggeringly lopsided. The Predators, frustrated by a 1-2-2 trap with aggressive forechecking from the Blues dropped their first regulation loss of the year at ScottTrade Center.

The Blues were tenacious all night and took advantage of many Predators missteps in a game that would extend goaltender Brian Elliott’s shutout streak to 3 games. The Blues opened the scoring in the second period with Jamie Langenbrunner striking first after some confusion in front of the net and a sprawling Pekka Rinne.

The Blues would capitalize early in the third by using an extremely potent forecheck for a give and go that handcuffed Kevin Klein for the score by David Perron on the back hand.

The third period would also have a questionable call go against the St. Louis Blues. The Blues David Backes fed a great pass to T.J. Oshie who put an initial shot on net and seemingly stuffed home the loose puck. The ref immediately signaled no goal and it went to review in Toronto and was determined that Oshie pushed Rinne into the net with the puck. By all intents and purposes, it was a good goal and a blown call (just trying to be objective). Oshie would later make it a moot point as he would catch Ryan Suter way out of position and build the wall for a back hand score at 16:00 of the third period.

Special Teams:

Powerplay – 0 for 1, 0%
Penalty Kill – 1 for 1, 100%

My Three Stars:

#1: Brian Elliott – 24 saves and his third shutout in a row. Most were routine stops as Nashville didn’t provide much offensive pressure tonight, but 3 consecutive shutouts is still very impressive in today’s NHL.
#2: T.J. Oshie – 1g, 1a, +2. Oshie has been the biggest nemesis against the Predators from the Blues this season. Oshie works hard every shift and gets rewarded as such with game-changing results for his squad.
#3: David Backes – 2a, +1 on the night. Leads by example and plays a rock solid game with tons of grit and fire. The feed to Oshie for the “non-goal” was pretty sick as was his hard-nosed play all night clogging up the neutral zone and the slot area.
