Red Light District Hockey:
Detroit Red Wings
New Jersey Devils
After going out in the first round after just five games, the Detroit Red Wings have raised a fair amount of eyebrows by fans and the media alike. One main question looms: What do they need to fix? Is it minor tweaks, an addition here, a subtraction there? Or is it a complete overhaul? One thing is for certain, the Red Wings will be shopping around for a top four defenseman to fill their roster. It's more than likely that Brad Stuart will be heading back to the West Coast somewhere in order to be closer to his family. And if Nicklas Lidstrom decides to hang up the skates and call it a career, this team is in hotter water than they have ever handled within the past decade. The team added Kyle Quincey (again) to the lineup at the trade deadline. Yet after having a terrific first game back, he seemed to peter out and not do much - or at least as much as fans were expecting. Will the Red Wings re-sign him and hope he'll pick up the pace again? The team needs to find a solid, relia...

Red Wings fans might be more apt to suggest, or at least hope, that their team might somehow find a way to honor the contributions made by Darren McCarty, Kirk Maltby, Kris Draper, Chris Osgood and, assuming his playing days are done, Tomas Holmstrom to the team’s 4 Stanley Cup championships—some sort of banner honoring the quartet, if not the opening of a Tigers-style “Hall...

May Day! May Day! May Day!
Although it is the first of May, today isn't the anniversary of arguably one of the Sabres' most memorable goals, when Brad May scored to finish off a 4 game sweep of the Boston Bruins. The goal happened in late April of 1993, and here's another look at it:
It's bone chilling. However, the Sabres were swept by Montreal in the...
When last I left you, the boss kinda sorta worried you about the Captain when in fact, it was me that would return after my internet service provider, which just got “bought out,” decided that it would easily and simply “migrate” its servers to the new company’s hardware and software over the course of four hours on Tuesday morning. That didn’t happen, and somewhere around...
from Brendan Savage of Mlive, Devellano said he expects the NHL salary cap to increase from $64.3 million this year to somewhere in the neighborhood of $70 million next season. That could leave the Red Wings with about $20 million to re-sign some of their own players or to spend on free agents.
“There are so many different avenues to try and build a team,” he said. “We certainly...
Ladies and gentlemen, it's back. The NHL, along with HBO, has decided to bring back one of the most exciting and foul-mouthed shows on television, aside from Eastbound & Down of course. In the third season the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be the focus of HBO's 24/7, a four episode television series that has captivated audiences with it's incredibly...
from Lucas Aykroyd of IIHF.com, Are you having fun so far? Everyone here seems pretty excited to see you.
Yeah, absolutely. It’s great to be back home and play for Team Sweden. Hopefully we can get a nicer ending here than we did in Detroit.
