After many years of building, are the Los Angeles Kings finally ready for serious playoff contention? LA fans have been waiting a very long time this moment. The Kings were prepared to go deep into the playoffs last year but then Anze Kopitar broke his ankle at the end of the season and missed the playoffs. Disappointed at another early playoff exit to a team with such high expectations, at the beginning of the off-season, GM Dean Lombardi pulled off one of the craziest deals in NHL history. He acquired two way all-star Mike Richards from the Flyers.

Then just a few days ago he secured young star Drew Doughty for the next eight years. They have a core of Kopitar, Richards, Doughty, Quick and Brown. That's among the NHL's best. I personally believe that Los Angeles is gonna have a breakout season. It's been a long wait Kings fans. But the wait is coming to an end.

“I know it’s early, but we have a very similar makeup (to the 2008-09 Flyers),” Richards said. “We’ve got a lot of depth at forward, good defense-men, and a steady goaltender situation where we have two guys who can step in at any time.”
