The first splash of the summer for the Blackhawks, outside of their own re-signings, was the acquisition and eventual signing of Buffalo defenseman Steve Montador.
Montador was a guy the Blackhawks had reportedly pursued around the trade deadline, when they were looking for a defenseman to add with the loss of Jordan Hendry, as well as simply the need to add some depth on the blue line. Instead, they traded for Chris Campoli from Ottawa.
Steve Montador wasn’t exactly a star with the Sabres. He was a healthy scratch for Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals against Philadelphia, and he was a minus-1 in the six games he did play.
Overall, Montador finished the season with solid stats, including 26 points and a plus-16. He put up points with some regularity when the season started, before disappearing for much of November and December. He eventually picked it up at the end, with an assist in each of his last three games of the regular season.
