Ray Whitney had a game to play and not much time to talk, but he did have a point to make: returning to the RBC Center tomorrow night will be special.
"And weird," he said Tuesday. "It's going to be a little weird for me, playing against the Hurricanes."
Whitney was a vital part of the Canes winning the 2006 Stanley Cup and helped spur them to the 2009 Eastern Conference finals. No. 13 was always a crowd favorite and a crafty winger, a playmaker who always seemed to be in the right spots in the offense zone and was dangerous on the power play. The Wizard.
Whitney left the Canes after the 2010 season, signing a two-year free-agent contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. The Hurricanes played the Coyotes in Glendale, Ariz., last season. Wednesday's game will mark Whitney's return to the RBC Center and he comes in, at age 39, as the Coyotes' leading scorer.
