The Canucks signed Alex Edler to a 6 year-30 million deal. Via the Province: Edler, 26, has played 386 career NHL games in a Canucks uniform recording 184 points (43-141-184) and 200 penalty minutes. The 6’3”, 215-pound defenceman has appeared in 55 playoff games for the Canucks scoring seven goals, 20 assists (7-20-27) and registering 34 penalty minutes. Oh boy. This contract just became the baseline for Kris Letang, who is going into the last year of his contract next season.   Letang's stats by comparsion: 350 games played, 171 Points ( 35 goals-132 assists)   Two other deals out there to reference:   Erik Karlsson - 7 year, $45million deal Drew Doughty 8 year, $56 million deal   When he is under control we'll put Letang against any of these dman.    Good and bad parts to this.   The Good: Here is hoping Letang sees this contract and realizes he can get paid even more than Edler if he just gets a hold of himself and stops playing like he is the horse in 'War Horse' every shift.   The Bad: Letang realizes that he can probably command $7.5 a year in the open market, and delays re-signing with the Pens over the summer, creating a ripple effect with Malkin's contract, which is also up after next season.   Overall, Alex Edler just started the clock on what will be an interesting set of discussions this summer.     Thanks alot, you swedish douche.
