Rangers-coach-tortorella
As the Dallas Stars’ search for a new head coach continues, there have been a few names that have come and gone. Dallas Eakins was a possible candidate last week, until being recently picked up by the Edmonton Oilers as their new head coach. The old Ranger’s head coach, John Tortorella, is now a candidate on the Stars’ radar. John Tortorella during a press conference. A quick search on YouTube for clips of John Tortorella during press conferences will show you that he is not a calm person who will be pushed around. One of the things former Stars coach, Glen Gulutzan, was criticized for was not being a strong, dominant character that the players could look up to. Tortorella is the complete opposite of weak, and with a new crop of players entering into Dallas’ roster, it may be necessary for them to have a strong figurehead that has a lot of coaching experience. Tortorella also has the traits of discipline which are required to coach younger players in any level of any sport. Tortorella has been a controversial head coach mainly because of his post-game conferences with the media, and his ability to lose his cool. Nonetheless, he knows how to win, which is something that the Stars haven’t been the best at in recent years. His past coaching experiences aren’t too shabby as well. In 2004, he led the Tampa Bay Lightning to a Stanley Cup victory, and lost in the conference final last season with the New York Rangers. Because of Tortorella’s personality, he is a coach that should succeed in a state such as Texas. He is a very open and direct person that will tell any person exactly what he is thinking. The Dallas Stars should consider interviewing Tortorella quickly (pending permission from the New York Rangers), because there are rumors that other teams such as Vancouver have started interviewing him already. Other coaching possibilities After the success of the Texas Stars this past season, it would be tough for the Dallas Stars to not look at their own organization and consider hiring Willie Desjardins (Texas Stars head coach) as the new head coach of the Dallas Stars. The Vancouver Canucks also fired their head coach, Alain Vigneault, at the end of this most recent season. The success that the Canucks have had under Vigneault can’t go unnoticed. Although they were never able to win the cup with Vigneault, they had amazing seasons that always seemed to come up just a little bit short.
