Why is it cool to boo Dany Heatley? I get why Sens fans do it. To the best of their knowledge, he dissed them. But the rest of us? San Jose? What did he do to us? Lots of rinks around the NHL boo Dany Heatley, for reasons hard to discern. I’ve asked, but the reasons people give me (people other than Sens fans) don’t hold water anymore, if they ever did. As far as I can tell, it’s just trendy, people don’t ask why. Most of those rinks never had him on their team. I think San Jose should have a reason to boo him, not just do it like a jerk reflex. He cost the Sharks a lot, not only in cap space. The Sharks traded Milan Michalek for him: Still, few Sharks fans in the Bay Area shed many tears when he was shipped to Ottawa along with Jonathan Cheechoo for Dany Heatley, then thought to be the player that would put the Sharks over the top. -Sharks Talk Fans were sorry to see Cheechoo go, and regretted losing Michalek as well. Heatley had a big burden of sen...

Wild put hard work (and fun) into shootouts

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- After the 2004-05 NHL lockout, several new rules were implemented, and one of them was adding a shootout to eliminate ties. The extra points earned in a shootout the winner gets two points, the loser one -- can be vital at the end of the season, and the Minnesota Wild have taken notice. "You see how many teams at the end of the year miss the playoffs by...

Harding feeling better; Setoguchi not as much

SAN JOSE, Calif Josh Harding's injury 2 minutes into the Minnesota Wild's Tuesday night victory against the San Jose Sharks allowed emergency goalie Matt Hackett to enter the game and pick up a win, but it sounds like Harding could be back to work soon. Harding appeared to suffer a neck injury 11 seconds after allowing a goal in the first minute of play. He was hit in the...

Wild RW Setoguchi iffy for Thursday's game

Minnesota Wild right wing Devin Setoguchi appears unlikely to play in Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings due to a lower-body injury. Setoguchi sat out practice Wednesday and was wearing a soft case on his right leg. He played less than three minutes in Tuesday's game against San Jose. One of the Wild's major offseason acquisitions, Setoguchi has eight goals...

Minnesota Wild off to hot start despite low production from former San Jose Sharks

Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi haven't produced the offensive punch expected of them for the first-place Wild

Hackett Wows in NHL Debut

The Minnesota Wild was more than opportunistic Tuesday night in its 2-1 win against the San Jose Sharks.  Outshot 42-21 on the road against the lineup that San Jose boasts, one would’ve thought that the Wild’s winning streak was surely going to end.  However, Minnesota found two very different ways to score, and received an unbelievable outing by their goaltender...

Kevin Freiheit: Statistics you should know...

Follow @KevinSHC With two months completed of the NHL regular season, it's time to look at some statistics: -The Minnesota Wild lead the league with 37 points and half a game in hand over Pittsburgh (36) and Chicago (36). However, the Bruins have 35 points and have played two fewer games. Although they are first in the league, the Wild have scored just 69 goals in...

Hackett comes up big in relief in 2-1 road win for the Wild over the Sharks

I love the History Channel show Pawn Stars. The eclectic pawn shop located in Las Vegas, Nevada has turned into its own tourist destination and the according to Rick Harrison, the shop's owner, business has never been better. With a lagging economy I think just about everyone is thinking of other ways to try to supplement their income. I have no doubt that the show has had...

Wild-Kings Preview

The Minnesota Wild haven't won six in a row in nearly five years, and they've never won six straight on the road. They can accomplish both of those feats Thursday night in Los Angeles, where they were dominated by the Kings last month. Minnesota (18-7-3) leads the NHL with 39 points and is on its third five-game winning streak of the season after posting a 2-1 victory in...

One too many

The Minnesota Wild’s goalie was green, no one knew what to expect from him. That is worth a couple wins. It would make more sense to be beaten by Harding, or Backstrom if he was available, but I could make the excuse that it’s harder to beat a good prospect the first time you see him than a few games down the road. Let the puns commence. By all accounts, Hackett...

Recap: San Jose vs. Minnesota

Pierre-Marc Bouchard's late first-period goal held up for Minnesota thanks to Matt Hackett's stellar debut between the pipes, as the Wild earned a 2-1 win over the Sharks.

Puck Daddy chats with Minnesota’s Kyle Brodziak about underestimating Wild, being a perfectionist and Heatley’s turtleneck

Kyle Brodziak doesn't watch a lot of episodic television when the Minnesota Wild are traveling, but one show has hooked him: "Gold Rush Alaska" on the Discovery Channel. "I started watching it with my wife last year," he said. "You just want them to do so good, and it seems like everything goes wrong. But you hope in the end they do well." It&...
