ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Zach Parise and Matt Cullen scored in a shootout Wednesday as the Minnesota Wild won 3-2, handing the Chicago Blackhawks their first setback of the season. Cullen also scored in regulation for Minnesota (4-2-1). Andrew Shaw and Jonathan Toews got goals for the Blackhawks, who fell to 6-0-1. They got a shootout goal from Toews but lost when Patrick Sharp's shootout attempt hit the crossbar. Minnesota needed just 90 seconds to take the lead, when Cullen got his first goal of the season, poking a loose puck low between Crawford's pads after the Chicago goalie had stopped Minnesota's first two shots on the play. The Blackhawks needed just a few minutes to answer, turning the deficit into a lead in a flash. Shaw tied the game, crashing the net to poke a loose puck past Minnesota goalie Josh Harding. A little over a minute later, Toews' long-range blast slipped under Harding's stick. Having seen Harding allow two goals on Chicago's fir...

Zach Parise's no goal.

At first look, it appeared that Zach Parise had scored with 4:37 left in the second period of tonight's game between Columbus Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Wild. After further review, the refs determined correctly that Zach had punched the puck into the net with his glove.

Wild's top line pacing early season success

ST. PAUL, Minn. Ever since star forward Zach Parise signed his mega-contract last summer with the Minnesota Wild, coach Mike Yeo had dreamed of putting Parise with center Mikko Koivu and wing Dany Heatley. Yeo felt the three could complement each other well and become the top scoring line Minnesota has sought for years, while also being responsible defensively. Yeo had time to change...

Wild pass early test in victory over Blackhawks

ST. PAUL, Minn. When the Minnesota Wild went on their summer shopping spree to land big-name free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, fans of the team envisioned long playoff runs, Stanley Cups and parades down the streets of St. Paul. All of the hype surrounding Parise and Suter overshadowed one important fact. The first step for Minnesota is getting back into the playoffs, after...

Wild Friday: Scoring help finally arrives

FRIDAY'S STORY LINE: Where is the depth? Where is the secondary scoring? In the first five games of the season, those questions were constantly fired at coach Mike Yeo. The top line of Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Dany Heatley has been as advertised. The three were dominant from the get-go and combined for 10 of Minnesota's 13 goals in the first five games. Still the question...

Wild win shootout, hand Blackhawks first loss of season

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- With the Chicago Blackhawks off to the best start in their long franchise history, it was likely to take an extra effort to beat them. Cullen, Wild hand Chicago its first loss with 3-2 shootout victory

Some players describe it as pins and needles, or the sensation of electricity running through the body when they think about that moment when they are totally amped.  It can sometimes feel as though time slows down, or how you become sensitive to the smallest things.  Your body becomes so charged that you feel like you could run through a wall and not even feel it.  I have a feeling...

Wild-Ducks Preview

After a three-game losing streak negated their quick start to the season, a pair of victories have the Minnesota Wild feeling good again. A third straight win Friday night against Anaheim would further boost their confidence, as they'll be facing a Ducks team that's coming off a shootout loss but off to a good start to 2013. The Wild (4-2-1) couldn't maintain their...

Wild win in a Shootout 3-2

The WCHA was well represented tonight. Here is the video of the shootout. Shooting is former Fighting Sioux forwards Zach Parise and Jonathan Toews. Also, Mikko Koivu, Patrick. Kane, former Saint Cloud State Husky Matt Cullen and Patrick Sharp shootout attempts. Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews has a 50 percent success rate in the shootouts. That's incredible in my opinion.
