Zach Parise and Ryan Suter are clicking at the same time, and it's leading to good things for the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota hopes its pair of $98-million acquisitions can keep it going Saturday as the club seeks its second win over the Colorado Avalanche in three days. The Wild are 8-4-0 since a 6-6-2 start and have won three of their past four, beating visiting Colorado 5-3 in the opener of this home-and-home set Thursday. Parise wasted no time in making an impact for his new team with nine points in the first five games before slowing down with three in the next 12. Suter's start was more measured, with nine points in his first 17 contests. The duo, though, has combined for 21 points over the last nine games - including three assists from Suter and two from Parise on Thursday - with Minnesota going 6-3-0 over that stretch. One goal in the second period Thursday embodied almost exactly what the team hoped for when it signed Parise and Suter to identical 13-year contrac...

Brodin lights lamp for first time in career

ST. PAUL, Minn. As he skated by the Minnesota Wild bench, in the typical fashion following a goal, Jonas Brodin got a few fist bumps, per usual, but also got some taps on the top of his head from his excited teammates. Minnesota's veterans were happy for the 19-year-old rookie scoring his first NHL goal. Brodin has been as steady as they come on the defensive end in his rookie...

Wild trade Genoway for seventh-round pick

ST. PAUL, Minn. The Minnesota Wild traded defenseman Chay Genoway on Thursday to the Washington Capitals for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in the 2014 draft. Genoway, 26, has played the entire season with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League. In 53 games with Houston, he had four goals and 15 assists and was a plus-11. Genoway was signed by Minnesota as a college...

Heatley reaches 400 assists in win

Dany Heatley found it all too fitting that he reached the 400-assist mark for his career with two ''passes'' off the post. Known more for his shot, the Minnesota Wild forward clanged a pair of line drives off the goal post, only to have the puck carom straight to teammates and result in two assists for Heatley. That's just how things have been going of late...

Wild Thursday: Zucker out against Colorado

THURSDAY'S STORY LINE: Jason Zucker, who took a nasty hit from Ducks forward Corey Perry on Tuesday, will be out of the lineup Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche. The league suspended Perry four games for the hit. Zucker skated on his own Thursday morning, and Wild coach Mike Yeo said he anticipates his young forward will travel with the team on its upcoming road trip to...

Wild 5, Avalanche 3

Rookie defenseman Jonas Brodin's first NHL score highlighted a three-goal second period by the Minnesota Wild in a 5-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night. Devin Setoguchi and Mikko Koivu also scored in the decisive middle frame. Ryan Suter had a season-high three assists and Matt Cullen and Zach Parise each had two assists to help the Wild improve to 10-3...

Koivu scores twice, to give Wild 5-3 home win over Colorado

"Beware the Ides of March," one of the more ominous and famous lines from William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar.  It was a moment of foreshadowing for the great Roman leader who was going to be betrayed by supposed allies who were jealous of Julius' growing power and popularity.  It is a play perhaps every student is exposed to in English or Literature classes...

Coach Of The Year

I made my first coach of the year pick this season about a month ago.  It was Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators.  I feel that he is a top coach and has been a top coach for years and it is a shame that he has not won the Jack Adams Trophy as coach of the year in the process.  He has done a wonderful job with the Predators and has not has his due in terms of awards.  I...
