ST. PAUL, Minn. The NHL announced that Minnesota Wild forward Warren Peters was suspended one game for a cross-checking to the head of David Backes of the St. Louis Blues during Saturday's game.
Peters is serving the suspension on Sunday with Minnesota hosting the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. Peters, who has one goal and four assists in 36 games this season, will forfeit 2,905.41 of his 550,000 salary.
Peters cross-checked Backes in the shoulder, but his stick glanced up and hit Backes in the side of the head. Backes left the game and didn't return.
Without Peters and with Mikko Koivu out with an undisclosed injury, the Wild called up Chad Rau from Houston Sunday and put the Eden Prairie native into the lineup. Defenseman Mike Lundin was placed on injured reserve.
