ST. PAUL, Minn. His first two NHL call-ups have been anything but routine for Wild forward Chad Rau.
Rau, an Eden Prairie native, was called up in late January to make his NHL debut on Hockey Day in Minnesota. He then scored the game-winning goal against the Dallas Stars. Fast-forward to Sunday when Rau was recalled from the Houston Aeros and spent the entire night traveling to make it to Minnesota in time for Sunday's afternoon game against the Boston Bruins as part of Hockey Day in America.
Give it to Rau; he knows how to make an appearance.
Rau has two career NHL goals and both are game-winners as his wrist shot past Boston goaltender Tim Thomas helped the Wild to a 2-0 win on Sunday. Another Minnesotan, Matt Cullen, snapped his 15-game goalless streak and Niklas Backstrom made a career-high 48 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as Minnesota beat the defending Stanley Cup champions during a nationally-televised broadcast.
