Found January 14, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
from Tim Wharnsby of CBC, The Colorado Avalanche will have more difficulty luring back restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly from Russia than the Montreal Canadiens and Dallas Stars will have in locking up their unsigned youngsters, P.K. Subban and Jamie Benn, respectively. Metallurg Magnitogorsk, the KHL team that O'Reilly plays for, is paying the 21-year-old forward a prorated $4-million US to play in Russia this year. It is also believed that Metallurg Magnitogorsk is willing to increase O'Reilly's contract if he agrees to stay in Russia. Negotiations between O'Reilly's agent Mark Guy and the Avalanche have yet to produce a new deal for native of Varna, Ont. (near Stratford). The two sides are believed to be far apart. continued

Report: Canadiens, P.K. Subban Not Close to Deal, Defenseman May Not Start Season on Time

The Montreal Canadiens will do battle with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night, marking hockey’s return in front of a rabid Canadian national TV audience. When the Habs do so, it’s becoming more and more likely they’ll be doing so without one of their best players. Restricted free agent P.K. Subban has yet to sign a new contract with Montreal, and according to the Montreal...

Benn negotiations remain confounding

Team executives in our major sports negotiate contracts all of the time and therefore see all sorts of scenarios. But, the rarest of them all is when they have a mountain of money and want to give it to a player, only to find out that his camp is somewhat reluctant to accept it. That appears to be the situation here, 72 hours before opening night in the NHL, as the Dallas Stars...

Eklund: Morning Buzz: Is PK Subban Worth Twice the Money Del Zotto Signed For?

Working on my rumor blog, but as I do...a morning buzz for you... Is PK Subban worth twice the money Del Zotto Signed For? There is no question Subban's life got much more complicated when Del Zotto signed a deal with the Rangers yesterday for $2.55 per. Subban wants over 5 per and many argue, on the ice, PK and MDZ are very comparable... Subban's popularity in...

Fans fill bleachers as Avalanche open camp

The fans crammed into the bleachers and lined one side of the ice rink, waiting for the Colorado Avalanche to take the ice. Maybe they were there to simply catch a glimpse of the Avalanche during their first official practice since the lockout was lifted. Or maybe they filled the tiny arena on Sunday because it was a way to forget - at least for a moment - the Denver Broncos'...

Aaron Musick: The Avs need a first line

If the Avs are to have any hopes of making the playoffs, they need a first line. A true, bona fide first line. Last year, David Jones, Paul Stastny and Jamie McGinn played the role late in the year but they are probably better as a second line that can slide in behind the first. No, if the Avs are going to be competitive during this short, 48 game season, they are going to need their line...

Update On The Restricted Free Agents

via Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, The top unsigned player in the NHL is forward Jamie Benn, and he wasn’t at the opening of Dallas Stars camp Sunday....   "I’m optimistic that we’ll have him back on the team, but it won’t be today," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk told ESPN.com on Sunday morning. "We’ll focus on the guys we have here because it’s a short...

50 NHL Fantasy Predictions

from Matt Cubeta of NHL.com, 1. Last year I said Datsyuk would reach 100 points. This year I'm saying he won't top 40 points -- 40 points in 48 games is a rate of .83 points-per-game, which would've tied him for 44th in the NHL last season. Between his declining stats, potential for injury and his lack of shots and PIMs, he might not be worth an early draft pick...
