NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- With three rookie defensemen in their lineup, the Nashville Predators were looking for anything other than a close, tight game.
But goalie Pekka Rinne and the rest of the Predators held it together and outlasted the slumping Minnesota Wild in a 2-1 shootout victory on Wednesday night.
Count Rinne among those who like what they've seen from newcomers Jonathon Blum, Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis.
"They are playing their games and playing to their strengths," Rinne said. "They are not trying to not make mistakes.That's the biggest thing for them."
Colin Wilson scored the only goal in the shootout, and that was enough for the Predators to send the Wild to their eighth straight loss.
"We thought Wilson was ready for it," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "I give a lot of credit to Mitch Korn, our goaltending coach, who breaks down the opposition's goaltenders."
