Fox Sports Detroit:
The Detroit Red Wings have hired former Edmonton Oilers coach Tom Renney as an associate coach.
Renney, 57, signed a three-year deal with Wings on Thursday.
After winning just 32 games last season, the Oilers in May announced that Renney's contract would not be renewed for the 2012-13 season.
He has coached for the Oilers, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks, and has a career 260-255-9-68 NHL record.

Stacked On Coaches: Tom Renney Joins Wings
Well here's a bit of good news for the day. Wings hire former Edmonton coach Tom Renney as their new assistant coach. We might be a bit weak on defense, but we are now stacked in the coaching staff ranks. Per TSN:

Oilers re-sign Dubnyk, Petry
The Edmonton Oilers re-signed restricted free-agent goalie Devan Dubnyk and defenseman Jeff Petry to two-year deals Thursday, and agreed to a one-year deal with left winger Dane Byers.

Petry had two goals and 23 assists in 73 games for...
Richard Cloutier: Petry Sittin' Purty; Dubey is Scooby
On Thursday, Oilers GM Steve Tambellini locked up two key players when he re-signed goaltender Devan Dubnyk and defenseman Jeff Petry to two-year deals. Set Dubnyk's cap hit to $3.5mil per season, and Petry at $1.75mil per. Good deals?
Not bad.
I think it's an overpayment for Dubnyk, but at least the signing clears up any confusion that could exist as to what the plan...
Oilers Look to College Players with Jujkar Khaira
The NHL does not have a lot of racial diversity, but that is something that is slowly changing. With their first 3rd round pick the Edmonton Oilers selected Jujkar Khaira, an East Indian playing in the BCJHL. And while it may not have seemed like a big deal to Khaira, it did to the many South Asians who play hockey in Edmonton. As reported by Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun...
Red Wings overnight report: on ‘due diligence’ and Tom Renney’s hiring
Red Wings GM Ken Holland suggested that his team would step back and reevaluate its plans after being spurned by Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, so I cannot deny that I was more than a bit surprised by all the hubbub about Rick Nash on Thursday.
The media very understandably skewered Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson for demanding the sun, moon and stars for Nash’s services, but at the...
