According to Brendan Savage of Mlive.com who cites a team source, the Detroit Red Wings are discussing a trade with the Calgary Flames that would send veteran defenseman Jay Boumeester to the Motor City. Boumeester has been the source of trade rumors for some time now after he became expendable when the Flames signed Dennis Wideman to a five-year, $26.25 million deal. Ideally Calgary would probably like to keep both defensemen since their current payroll of $66.6 million is still under the $70.2 million dollar cap however the ongoing CBA negotiations could lower the cap putting the Flames in the red. The Wings essentially became interested in a deal for Boumeester when a relatively thin market of blue liners surfaced after prized d-man Ryan Suter signed with the Minnesota Wild. This is also not mentioning the retirement of captain Nicklas Lidstrom and the departure of Brad Stuart via free agency which left the Wings with only six NHL ready defensemen (Nicklas Kronwall, Jakub Kindl, ...

Flames Exploring Jay Bouwmeester Trade With Red Wings Or Flyers?

The Calgary Flames are trying to figure out just exactly how expendable defenseman Jay Bouwmeester is after the team signed Dennis Wideman. Aside from deciding whether they can afford to trade Bouwmeester, the Flames also have to decipher whether or not they can afford to keep him, especially if the NHL lowers the salary cap whenever a new collective bargaining agreement...

Richard Cloutier: Bouwmeester an Oiler? Ummm, No

Dun dun dun...Another one bites the dust... Yes, Oilers fans, yet another NHL defenseman is not going to end up in Edmonton. Word from the TSN website this afternoon that the Flames and Wings are working on a deal to send Jay Bouwmeester to the Motor City. I have no idea what the Flames will get in return with the deal, but chances are it will be an overrated, old, overpriced...

Eklund: Wings Are Not the Only Team in Talks for Bouwmeester. Who else?

There are reports the Red Wings are closing in on a deal to acquire Jay Bouwmeester, but according to my sources they aren't the only team in this race. St. Louis, NJ, Philly, and Phoenix are also possible destinations for Jay Bo's services. It does appear that interest is indeed spiking for this player right now...stay tuned.

Brian Huddle: Top 10 Prospects: Calgary Flames

Follow @BrianHuddle The Calgary Flames are currently ranked 23rd overall for organizational depth in prospects(HockeysFuture.com), 24th here at HockeyBuzz, and although the consensus for the Flames is that of empty cupboards, new GM Jay Feaster is working at changing this. It seems that Feaster's goal is to acquire players who have higher hockey smarts, and this has...

Colin Dambrauskas: Are The Calgary Flames Following in the Footsteps Of The Florida Panthers?

As I was digging around looking more information regarding all the Jay Bouwmeester trade talk, I noticed a similarity between the current Calgary Flames roster, and that of the Florida Panthers about three years ago. I noticed a similar pattern used by the Panthers that the Flames may themselves be following, and would like to analyze it further. This blog will therefore attempt...

Travis Yost: Trade Targets: The Real Value of Jay Bouwmeester

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- A lot's been made about Calgary Flames defenseman Jay Bouwmeester this summer. I suspect a lot of it has to do with Calgary's desire to shed some of their heavy internal cap, but it's also lands on a pretty favorable mark when it comes to your basic supply // demand curve. Supply's pretty low -- be it through players available...

Colin Dambrauskas: A Look Into The Future...

Given that there isn’t a whole lot to discuss right now, I thought it may be interesting to look over the current Flames roster, and further their salaries over the next two years. For the most part this offseason, I’ve discussed options available to Jay Feaster and the Calgary Flames that were of speculative nature, so this blog will focus mainly on the substantial...

Red Wings overnight report: a ‘meaningful gulf’ between talk and action

This entry starts with a disclaimer: this might be a little inelegant as I’m still kinda dippy from sleeping all of Thursday, and I’m on the clock to take the mom to a doctor’s appointment (again) today, so here goes: I’m glad that the Macomb Daily’s Chuck Pleiness confirmed that the Red Wings are indeed speaking to the Calgary Flames about Jay Bouwmeester, as MLive...
