When Ken Holland signed Jordin Tootoo this offseason, he had one role in mind for him – nastiness.  Tuesday night, in front of a packed Joe Louis Arena, Tootoo tangoed with two Dallas Stars. The first was right off the opening face-off with Eric Nystrom.  It was obviously pre-arranged, possibly with a “save the date” card.   And his second fight, with Brenden Dillion, was more of a “just for the heck of it” type thing.

FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Stars have recalled defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and forward Antoine Roussel from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League. Dallas also Wednesday assigned Reilly Smith to Texas. The 6-foot-7 Oleksiak, a first-round pick in 2011, has 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) in 43 games for the Texas Stars and was an AHL All-Star this season. Roussel...

Afternoon diversion: on the draft, a previous Red Wings draft and Ken Holland’s trade trigger point

Because weather issues forced the Dallas Stars to fly into Detroit today, they didn't hold a morning skate. As such, the Dallas News's Mike Heika and DallasStars.com's Mark Stepneski offered their game-day updates within the last hour, and the Wings' website has just wrapped up their game-day coverage. Those stories and videos are located in the post dedicated to...

2013 Game 7 Preview: Dallas Stars @ Detroit Red Wings

Dallas Stars (2-3-1, 5 pts) @ Detroit Red Wings (2-2-1, 5 pts) 6:30 PM CT Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan The Red Wings Like Dallas, the Wings have been off to a shaky start. They’ve alternated between wins and losses so far this season (on track for a win tonight if the trend continues) though their play has looked better the past few games. The Wings lost...

Brenden Morrow A 4th-Liner?

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, Morrow is playing on the fourth line and has logged less than 10 minutes a game in each of the last two outings. He hasn’t seen that kind of role since he wore No. 45 while breaking in as a rookie back in 1999-2000. It’s not an easy decision for the Stars to make, and it’s not an easy reality for Morrow, who has played 812 games...

Stars G Kari Lehtonen makes amazing save

Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson had Stars goalie Keri Lehtonen beaten for a split second.  Johnson’s wrister hit Lehtonen in the trapper, tipped up over the goalie’s shoulder was headed for the net when Lehtonen used his go-go gadget reflexes to reach behind himself for a backhanded snatch. It was part pitcher-fielding-a-comebacker part magician, but it’s definitely the...

Great Moments in Tomas Holmstrom History

Homer! Demolition Man. The Angry Chipmunk. Whatever we use to describe him, it is out of pure admiration. How can you not love the guy who spent his entire career with one team being one of the biggest pains in the neck for opposing goalies/defensemen simply through the art of non-violent resistance? Which is the same art I managed growing up, playing the victim so my 3 older brothers...

Red Wings-Stars set-up and overnight report: a pair of ‘teams in progress’ meet for the second time

The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Dallas Stars tonight (7:30 PM EST, FSD Plus, Fox Sports Southwest Plus, AM 1270) hoping to rebound from a disappointing loss against Chicago while playing a team in somewhat similar circumstances. The Stars have also undergone some roster revisions (see: Ray Whitney, Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy), they've welcomed Jamie Benn back...

Red Wings pull away late from Stars

Pavel Datsyuk stickhandled around a defender and sent a perfect pass across the front of the goal. All Valtteri Filppula had to do was shoot into an open net, and he had no problem scoring his second goal of the game. ''Whenever he has the puck, you can always expect it's going to come your way,'' Filppula said. ''I've obviously played with him for...

Stars relinquish early lead in loss to Wings

DETROIT (AP) -- Valtteri Filppula scored two goals -- both off nifty passes from Pavel Datsyuk -- and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars 4-1 on Tuesday night. Henrik Zetterberg scored on a two-man advantage in the final minute of the second period to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead, and Damien Brunner and Filppula scored 23 seconds apart in the third. The Red Wings rallied...

Detroit Red Wings Preview: Wings Look to Get Back Into the Win Column Against Ho-Hum Stars

This year’s iteration of the Detroit Red Wings—at least thus far—can be described as decidedly average, but can improve on that mediocrity tonight at home against a struggling Dallas Stars team. Once Western Conference Playoff enemies, the Stars and Wings are almost mirror-images of themselves this season. While Dallas has played one more game, both squads sport two wins...
