Ask Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock how he can fix what ails his bottom two forward units and he’ll utter a one-word answer.
“Helm,” is Babcock’s response.
Unfortunately, that situation doesn’t look like it’s about to change anytime soon. The Wings will go into St. Louis Thursday to face the Blues once again minus energy-providing centre Darren Helm, out for all but one game of the current NHL season due to a mysterious back ailment.

Earlier in this young NHL season, pictures of the facemask of then-backup Red Wings goalie Thomas McCollum made their internet debut. McCollum has a liking of the late Chris Farley’s character Tommy Boy. Apparently the sense of humor is a trend among Wings backup netminders as the current Jimmy Howard backup, Petr Mrazek, has a different funny guy on his mask. The 20-year old...

To say things haven’t gone as planned for the Detroit Red Wings to start the shortened hockey season is putting it mildly. Plenty of familiar issues, be them with scoring, the power play or the penalty kill have all reared their ugly heads at inoppertune times.
But, have there also been some bigger issues in between the pipes to complicate these matters?
Yesterday, the Detroit News's Mike Martindale reported that Pavel Datsyuk's suing a local businessperson who's been selling memorabilia with Datsyuk's likeness on them for some time now, and today, the Detroit Free Press's George Sipple spoke to Datsyuk's lawyer, who wants people to know that the lawsuit is not a, "Find someone who's may or may not...
Rookie Petr Mrazek, one of the gems of Detroit’s minor-league system, will make his first NHL start on Thursday night, as the Red Wings head into St. Louis to take on the Blues.
Multiple reports confirmed the news Thursday afternoon, following rumors of the possible switch in net. The Red Wings just called Mrazek up from Grand Rapids following Detroit’s loss to Calgary on Tuesday...

The Detroit Red Wings knew that they'd be facing a fired-up Flames team that had lost a 3-2 shootout decision after surrendering the game-tying goal in the final seconds thereof on Saturday, and knew that they'd have to push much harder and play much better than they did in the team's awful 4-2 loss to Columbus...

Unlike Red Wings coach Mike Babcock, St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock is...Let's say, "Given to Malik Report-style rambling" on a consistent basis. The man's fascinating as all hell get out, but he's also extremely verbose, and sometimes his astute observations also involve some "out there" comments.

The competing storylines about the Red Wings' desire to build a follow-on rink to replace Joe Louis Arena, as part of a $650 million mixed-use development which will be located between Cass and Woodward Avenues just north of I-75, have become something of a contest of late. On Sunday, Crain's Detroit Business's Bill Shea told us that the probably corporately named rink...

The Red Wings earned all of the zero points they got last night. Calgary came ready to play and Detroit did not. Really, this game was just a replay of the Columbus game from Saturday night. Nothing positive will be said in this post, so if you’re not into that sort of thing, might want to skip this one.

(AP) -- The Detroit Red Wings' defensive issues can be partially traced to their poor penalty-killing unit.
Leaking goals is a more recent problem for the St. Louis Blues, but both clubs are staring at a potential three-game slide.
The Red Wings and Blues are looking to show improvement defensively Thursday night when they meet for the third time already this season.
DETROIT, MI – The crippled Red Wings were handed their 2nd straight loss on Tuesday night at the hand of the Calgary Flames. It wasn’t so much that the Red Wings played a poor game, the Flames just played better. They did everything that a road team could want in this game. They scored early, [...]
