The Canadian Press The Edmonton Oilers open the abbreviated NHL season Sunday with high hopes centered around a core of young sharpshooters, including No. 1 overall draft pick Nail Yakupov.
Rookie head coach Ralph Krueger says a fast start is critical, since the team has a 17-day, nine-game road trip in late February.
The 19-year-old Yakupov has worked hard in training camp, but he will be on the second line. The top line includes Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall -- two top overall picks -- and Jordan Eberle.
The opener is Sunday night at Vancouver.

Many saw this trade as inevitable, as this is Musil’s last season in the WHL, and he was...

The Edmonton Oilers Win/Loss record for the last three seasons: 84 wins, 132 loses, 30 OTL's. The league's worst team by far.
We've all endured.
Oilers fans have suffered. They've offered their support to this losing franchise both financially and emotionally. Night-after-night, no matter how bad things got, the Oilers have played before a packed house. Oilers...
