Dainius Zubrus scored two goals and the New Jersey Devils rallied from an early two-goal deficit and pushed the Philadelphia Flyers to the brink of elimination with a 4-2 victory Sunday in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal. Zubrus put New Jersey ahead 3-2 late in the second period and iced the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute. Petr Sykora and Marek Zidlicky also scored for the Devils, who can advance to their first conference final since 2003 with a win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. New Jersey has never lost a playoff series after taking a 3-1 lead. In winning their third straight, the Devils let goalie Martin Brodeur have an easy night on his 40th birthday, outshooting Philadelphia 43-22. He even picked up an assist on Zubrus' final goal. Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux scored first-period goals for the Flyers, who once again were a step slow.

Giroux throws a high hit on Zubrus

Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers goes headhunting against the New Jersey Devils. Giroux was arguing about a call he did not get with the referees, he then took his frustrations out on Danius Zubrus’ head. The Devils ended up winning the game 4-2. Does the hit warrant a fine or even a suspension from NHL senior vice president for player safety Brendan Shanahan.

Will The Flyers Win Without Giroux?

from Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer, In a twisted way, not having their superstar center - suspended by the NHL on Monday for a head hit on the Devils’ Dainius Zubrus on Sunday - may unify the Flyers and give them a rallying cry. That’s their hope, anyway. And, hey, if you’ve watched how the Devils have embarrassed the Flyers over the last three games, all with...

The Philadelphia Flyers will look to stave off elimination of Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series with the New Jersey Devils, and they'll have to do without arguably their best player. Flyers forward Claude Giroux has been suspended one game for his hit on Dainius Zubrus in Game 4, the Flyers announced on their Twitter page on Monday afternoon. Giroux got Zubrus...

Claude Giroux hit on Dainius Zubrus

Here is the latest hit in the NHL that should receive some scrutiny - and the player in question deserves to  miss a game or two because of a suspension - or at least receive a fine. That being said, I would be very surprised if there is a suspension because Claude Giroux is considered an up and coming star players and Brendan Shanahan and the Department of Player Safety doesn...

Claude Giroux Suspended for Game 5 for Hit on Devils’ Zubrus

Flyers Forward Claude Giroux was suspended by the NHL for Game 5 today for a hit on New Jersey's Dainius Zubrus. The frustration of 3 straight games of being outplayed and out hustled wore on Claude Giroux. After a non-call by the referees on a potential Devils penalty, Giroux decided to give the officials a call to make. Giroux hit 6’5″ winger Dainius Zubrus high. He didn’t...

NEWARK, N.J. - Dainius Zubrus' goal with 2:13 left in the second period helped the New Jersey Devils rally from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 Sunday night and take a 3-1 lead in their second-round playoff series. Late in the second period, Giroux argued with...

Giroux faces hearing with Dept. of Player Safety

csnphilly.com Philadelphia Flyers star forward Claude Giroux has a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety this morning and I believe that Giroux deserves to have a one game ban for his head shot on Dainius Zubrus at the 19:56 mark of the second period in last night’s Eastern Conference Semifinal game against the New Jersey Devils. Zubrus was stunned by the...

Fantasy Hockey Playoff ONE (5/7)

Yes this one is going to hurt tomorrow but definitely a rallying point for the Flyers as Claude Giroux was suspended for one game (Zubrus hit and/or abuse of officials).  The bottom line was that took away from what happened in the game as New Jersey rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 in a game that was an exact reversal from anything we expected in this...

Claude Giroux Suspended

Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux participated in a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Monday morning for his late hit to the head of Dainius Zubrus of the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night. The call on the ice was a minor because there is no major penalty for illegal head checks and Zubrus was not injured on the play. On Monday afternoon, Brendan Shanahan...
