Jan Hejda: Avalanche unsung hero
Yesterday Mike Chambers of the Denver Post had a write up at the Denver Post on Jan Hejda. I was unimpressed with his analysis.Let's first adress the (very slight) potshot at me:Don’t believe your little league anonymous blogger — plus-minus is hockey’s best overall statistic, Actually let's ignore the potshot and look at the content. You should question what I say...

Coyotes' Torres fined $2,500 for hit

The hit came at 18:22 of the second period in Colorado's 3-2 over the Coyotes on Thursday night. Torres lowered his shoulder and appeared to hit Hejda on the side of the head.
Hejda lay on the ice for about a minute before being helped to the locker room...

Raffi Torres Takes Out Jan Hejda With Second Head Shot in As Many Nights (Video)
Apparently Raffi Torres didn't learn his lesson. Just one night after Adam McQuaid turned him into a bloody mess after he took out Andrew Ference with a high elbow, Torres landed his second cheap, high hit against the Avalanche when he took out Jan Hejda. Hejda, who was falling to the ice after dishing out a long pass in his zone, took Torres' elbow right to the temple, as...

Video- Raffi Torres Questionable Hit On Jan Hejda
No penalty on the play and I am not really sure why Hejda started going down before the hit. Did he see Torres coming or was it just a fall?

Hejda off the hook, Avs pound Devils 6-1
Indeed, the minus-16 rating for Avalanche “shutdown” defenseman Jan Hejda was a humiliating statistic for the kind of player who judges himself on that very figure. The affable Hejda smiled and took a big sigh when I asked him how his plus-3 (including his third goal of the season, two shy of his career high) felt in tonight’s 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils...
