Chatting with Islanders Prospect Scott Mayfield

(Via the New York Islanders Flickr page.) By Christian Arnold (@CA_NYHockey) On Thursday night, following the prospect scrimmage and skill competition, I had the chance to catch up with defensive prospect Scott Mayfield. The 20-year-old played two seasons of college hockey with the Denver University Pioneers before making the jump to pro hockey in the spring. Mayfield played six...

Examples of WCHA Officiating; inconsistency.

You make the call... Here is what I saw. First, you have a shoulder to shoulder hit that's called a elbow, that would lead to a power play goal by the Pioneers. Then, you get a legit call on the Scott Mayfield, that's a five minute major in my book. In my opinion, WCHA ref Don Adam made the right call on that play. The prime time player day

Sunday was a day of seeing key players making key plays for both the New York Ranger and the New York Islander prospects. But at the same time there are those whose teams are just not getting the message and if anything are eliminating...

Players of the week plus

The Beanpot a.k.a."The Chris Kreider Show" pushed back our schedule by a day but we have not forgotten our New York Islander or New York Ranger Prospect of the Week. The WCHA actually winds up doing our work for us as they named Scott Mayfield (NYI 2011 2nd) as their "Red Baron Rookie Of The Week" so we will use their press release to explain why Scott Mayfield...

Free food, free goals, fun Friday

Friday night had a lot of everything for everybody from the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospects. We had some pretty good performances from the prospects and this was one of the better evenings we have seen in a while.
