The Boston Bruins have signed rugged forward Shawn Thornton to a two-year contract extension.
Thornton, who leads the NHL this season with 19 major penalties for fighting, had a career-high 143 penalty minutes entering Monday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had four goals and eight assists this season and 29 goals, 43 assists and 759 penalty minutes in his career...

Forward Shawn Thornton has agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2013-14 with the Bruins. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Thornton, 34, signed with Boston as a free agent on July 1, 2007. He has played in 360 regular-season games with the Bruins, and has 25 goals, 37 assists and 601 penalty minutes. He has also played for the Blackhawks and Ducks.
