Putting a face on the implications of Russian homophobic legislation.

  • First, I think the recent Russian law IS stupid. However it does NOT outlaw or in any way make homosexual activity unlawful. What is does try do is to restrict "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations." I am so sick of the pro-gay propaganda in the US that I understand why some would promote such laws. For example, the article says 1% of athletes are gay but since 3.8% of the population are gay, therefore some athletes are still in the closet; the assumption being that the 1% is incorrect and the 3.8% correct - perhaps true. But the hypothesis that 3.8% is incorrect (too high an estimate) and the 1% is true, fits the data equally well, however, that is not mentioned. Also, just look at US television series. The number of homosexuals is greater that either 1% OR 3.8%. The propaganda that homosexuality is OK is just that, propaganda. The one driving force in all species from amoebas to man is the survival of the species. Since death is inevitable for all life, this survival can only occur through procreation, i.e., heterosexual sex. Homosexuality, led to the extreme, means the end of the species.

    There is no doubt that homosexuality has existed in mankind for eternity. And I think the rights of all citizens must be protected by the state. However, don't tell me that it is good and OK. It just is, and we need to give full protection of the laws to all persons, homosexuals included, but I don't think we need to be bombarded with the propaganda that having carnal knowledge of each others' anuses as good and wonderful.
