Cavaliers GM Chris Grant said the team is on the verge of hiring an assistant to complete coach Byron Scotts staff -- and if a report in a Spokane, Wash., newspaper is true, the Cavs are turning to their past. According the Spokesman-Review, former Cavs guard Craig Ehlo will fill the position vacated by Chris Jent after last season. Jent left for an assistant job at Ohio State. The newspaper cited a source close to the mens basketball program at Eastern Washington University, where Ehlo has worked as an assistant. A press conference announcing the move, according to the newspapers source, is set for Monday. Ehlo spent his best NBA seasons with the Cavs from 1986-93, an era that many fans of the organization still cherish most. Those teams were coached by Lenny Wilkens and also featured All-Stars Larry Nance, Mark Price and Brad Daugherty. Before getting into coaching, Ehlo worked as an analyst for the Seattle Supersonics and Gonzaga University. Interestingly, he was let go from that role by the Sonics and replaced by Wilkens. Ehlo, of course, was also at the receiving end of The Shot by Michael Jordan, which eliminated the 57-25 Cavs from the first-round of the playoffs. Everybody has a great signature moment, Ehlo told CSN Chicago last month. My signature moment came on a bad side, but I still consider it a great signature moment.
