"Mega Dump" Reported Across Colorado Ski Resorts

I'd call it a surprise storm, but this is April we're talking about—maybe the most indecisive month of the year weather-wise—so anything goes, really.

Last night, more than a foot of snow fell at some Colorado ski resorts, creating the perfect opportunity to catch another taste of winter before spring truly sets in.

Here are a few of the 24-hour snowfall totals spotted at resorts throughout Colorado this morning:

Arapahoe Basin: 13 inches

Breckenridge: 6 inches

Copper Mountain: 18 inches

Eldora: 6 inches

Steamboat Ski Resort: 9 inches

Vail Mountain: 12 inches

Winter Park: 10 inches

Copper Mountain was the clear frontrunner among these resorts with its impressive 18 inches of snow. The ski area announced yesterday that it would extend its 2023-2024 operating season into May.

Colorado's April storm arrived yesterday, depositing heavy snow until early this morning. Continued snow flurries are expected today. The Denver Gazette reports that a lull in the wintry conditions should appear in Colorado tomorrow, with the possibility of snow showers later this week.

While we might be witnessing one of the last—or the last—proper powder days in Colorado this season, plenty of skiing remains as several resorts prepare to continue operating next month (or maybe later) alongside Copper Mountain.

Arapahoe Basin hasn't announced an official closing date yet but tentatively shared earlier this season that they hoped to remain open until June 4th. The foot-plus of snow Arapahoe Basin just received certainly won't hurt those plans.

Breckenridge plans to remain open into May as long as the snow lasts, and Loveland Ski Area's final day of the season is May 12th.
