Snowbasin in Utah celebrated "almost" 400 inches on the season.

What does "almost" mean? In a recent post to Instagram, officials at Snowbasin wrote, "this week’s storm brought us up to 399”, but we can round up, right? First back-to-back 400(ish) inch seasons in 15 years!" See below.

Like many social media posts, the best part of this announcement were the responses from the peanut gallery. Commenters weighed in on their opinions of whether or not the resort can, in fact, round up.

One commenter wrote, "basically 500." He has a point, if you round 399 to 400, and then round to the closest half-thousand interval, you get to 500.

Dave Amirault won for funniest comment award, writing, "guys on grindr round up all the time, why not ski resorts?"

Still, some commenters believe in accuracy. One man wrote, "just wait for the next storm, even tho it’s off season, still counts for the year."

Maybe I'm being a buzzkill, but I do sort of love accuracy when it comes to numbers. Especially because an inch can be the difference between one resort seeing more snow than another for the year.

And, inches matter when it comes to things like base depth. 17 vs. 19 inches can be a big difference.

Snowbasin currently has a 128 inch base (not almost a 128 inch base, that is the actual number).

It's snowing today, so by the time you're at this point in the article, there is a chance Snowbasin reached a real 400 inches before the season comes to an end.
