Who is Silk? Meet the Man Behind the Camera at The Bomb Hole

Silk, do you like working at The Bomb Hole? What does a day in the life look like for you over there?
A few months before I knew I was moving to Utah, I knew I wanted a new job. When brainstorming about my strengths and priorities in a new job, I had a hard time thinking of exactly what my dream job would look like. So when I got the call about this job, it felt like the stars had aligned. It’s the perfect job for me and I love every second of it.

A typical day is hard to describe because every day looks so different, and that’s something I love about it. Maybe we’ll be recording with a guest and I’ll spend most of my day learning about somebody else’s life: their struggles, their aspirations, the impact they’ve had on snowboarding, etc. Other days, most of my time goes to editing podcast episodes or creating short format videos for Instagram and YouTube. Some days I spend hours standing in the snow filming and other days I’m coordinating ad reads, shooting product photos, or filming something stupid in the office. No day is the same and that is something I really value in my life.

What does a day in the life look like for you outside of work?
A typical day outside of work has a little more routine involved than a typical work day. I find that helps me feel balanced. I wake up to my beautiful fiancé and our dog and two cats, feed all the animals and take the dog out. I try to go for a long run and listen to music (this is where I find the music I use in all our recap videos). I always try to find some time throughout my day to draw or work on music, and I like to make lunch for me and my lady. And the nighttime ritual consists of binging reality TV before going to sleep.

All great things. How does it feel being the only non-East Coaster to work at the Bomb Hole?
I think one West Coaster is a good start but I’m waiting for the day when we’re all West Coasters. The take over is coming.

A mutiny scenario, I'm with you. Where does the name Silk come from? Why does everyone call you that?
The name Silk comes from the alias I release my music under: SILKDAZE. I’ve always played instruments since I was around 8, and during COVID I started trying to write, compose, play, and produce my own music. With absolutely zero knowledge I made my first EP and listed out adjectives that I thought fit the vibe. “Smooth” and “dreamy” were two of those adjectives. I then looked up synonyms of those words and SILKDAZE was born.

Clever. What's your real name?
Silk.

What's your secret to remaining so authentically yourself?
If there is a secret, I certainly don’t know it.

Where does snowboarding fall on your list of passions?
After getting this job I’ve realized I’m more interested in people than snowboarding. I get to meet so many unique people and hear so many new perspectives through this job. Snowboarding is what brought us all here, but I don’t know if it’s what keeps us here. The act of snowboarding and watching snowboarding is not the most important thing to me these days, although it once was. But I still love a blue bird park day every once in a while.

Righto. I feel that actually, and I'm kind of the same way. Being into things other than snowboarding is cool to me now. What else are you into? What is your list of passions and priorities?
I think it’s important to clarify the difference between passions and priorities. To me passions are things I want to do and priorities are things I need to do. Many of my passions fluctuate in my list of priorities based on what’s going on in my life at the time. Right now my biggest priority is my relationship with my fiancé. That includes having free time with her, planning dates and trips, helping out around the house and with the animals, etc. My next biggest priority is keeping this job. I don’t just want to do my job and meet the requirements, but excel and go beyond what’s asked.
That being said, my relationship with my fiancé and my job at The Bomb Hole are two things I’m very passionate about. If I’m doing something, it’s because I have passion for it. At this point in my life I don’t have the energy for things that I don’t have passion for. With all my remaining free time, I fill it up with my hobbies: drawing, tattooing, music, and photography.

What does the future hold for Silky D?
My future includes marrying my fiancé and moving into our first place together, finishing up my next album, tattooing more, maybe making a photo book, and of course, creating more quality content for the Bomb Hole.
