While a lot of attention is on the new signings that AC Milan will make in the summer, there is also the need to try protect some of the star players in the squad.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) explains this morning, the most complicated renewals are certainly those concerning Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez, both of whom are on deals expiring in 2026.

The two Frenchmen are two key pillars of the Rossoneri and therefore their extensions are a priority for the management,. In addition to increasing the length of the contract, both want an increase in salary and in this sense it will be necessary to understand what the players’ requests will be and also how far Milan can go in terms of what they can offer.

Added to this is the pressure from some top European clubs who would like to snatch Maignan and Theo Hernandez from Milan, which will of course add a different dynamic to the negotiations.

In addition to the two Frenchmen, there are also other players awaiting renewal: one of these is captain Davide Calabria who has a contract expiring in 2025 and who is also aiming for a salary adjustment (he currently earns €2.2m net per season).

The contracts of Yacine Adli and Matteo Gabbia’s deals will also expire in 2026 , but extending with them doesn’t seem too complicated, especially if you compare it with the negotiations for the renewal of Theo and Maignan.
