‘A Position To Watch’: Fabrizio Romano Reveals Position Chelsea Want to Strengthen With 77K P/W Player Possibly Leaving

Chelsea have been uncharacteristically quiet in the first few weeks of the 2024 January transfer window and have yet to sign anyone. However, there has now been an update on the future of 77K per week Trevoh Chalobah and a possible position for improvement at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Likely To Strengthen Centre-Back Position

Trevoh Chalobah Situation Can Cause Activity

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues are still looking at the availability of centre-backs in the winter transfer market. He also adds that a new defender would replace Trevoh Chalobah, who could leave the club in the next few weeks.

The journalist further claims that we will see what happens with Chalobah’s future and that the centre-back role is “a position to watch” for the London side. Romano also reiterates that Chelsea could also look to strengthen their depth of options in the centre-back area in the summer if unable to find suitable players in January.

What Can Happen With Chalobah?

Trevoh Chalobah has not made any appearances for the Blues this season after reportedly seeing a deadline-day move to Bayern Munich collapse after the clubs could not agree on the terms in time. He has been training on his own, and the Bundesliga are said to have dropped their interest in signing him.

It seems likely that the Blues will only be able to sign a new centre-back if they can offload the Englishman and find a suitable replacement. Chelsea have strengthened their backline with many signings over the last few years, signing Axel Disasi last summer after Wesley Fofana sustained a nasty injury. But it looks like Pochettino wants even more defensive options to find his best backline that can help the club compete for trophies.
