Alex Morgan after Disney incident: ‘I can’t imagine what black people go through’
Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

U.S. soccer star Alex Morgan will likely face additional backlash following an incident at Disney World earlier this month after video surfaced of her making controversial remarks to police.

Body cam footage released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and obtained by TMZ shows Morgan saying she “can’t imagine what black people go through” during an interview after she and others were booted from Epcot Center on Oct. 1.

“You guys are lying right now. I can’t imagine what black people go through,” Morgan said to police in the body-camera video.

Via the New York Post:

Morgan, 28, who was escorted to a conference room along with Orlando City soccer star Donald “Donny” Toia and his wife, Courtney, are told to be quiet by officers, before one member of the party says: “We have done nothing. We literally did nothing.”

Morgan is later heard saying: “We’re getting mouthy? Actually we haven’t said anything curse word-y.”

Morgan and her group were described as “highly impaired” and “verbally aggressive” in an incident report. The group at the end of their encounter with police sign paperwork acknowledging they have been banned from all Disney properties in the wake of the incident.

“That’s fine. It’ll be rescinded tomorrow,” Morgan is heard saying in the obtained footage.

Morgan, the 28-year-old star of the USWNT who also plays for the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League, issued an apology via Twitter regarding the incident.

Morgan this week issued an additional statement to the Orlando Sentinel in the wake of the footage being released Tuesday.

“Although I regret my actions last Sunday while attending the Epcot Food and Wine Festival with my family and friends, the video released today shows that while we were all caught up in the tension of the moment, I was not out of control or highly impaired,” Morgan said in the statement. “I used bad judgment and I was simply trying to support my friends.”
