Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has heaped praise on Tottenham youngster Dane Scarlett after being left impressed by him in training.

The hugely talented 19-year-old is the latest to have come through the academy and seems to have made an impression on the new boss.

He was impressive in the pre-season as well, scoring a brilliant goal against Shakhtar Donetsk during Tottenham’s 5-1 victory.

Despite a minor setback due to injury during pre-season, Scarlett’s progress has pleased Postecoglou. The manager acknowledged the delicate balance of deciding whether to keep Scarlett within the first-team training environment or send him out on loan to gain valuable game time.

Postecoglou emphasised that a decision on Scarlett’s immediate future would be made in the upcoming weeks, considering factors such as the type of game time he would receive and his age.

The Spurs boss said in his press conference:

“He’s been really good. I’ve been really impressed with him since we’ve come in. He had a bit of an injury which set him back a little bit in pre-season but we’re keeping him with us at the moment.

“I’ll probably make the decision on Dane in the next couple of weeks. It’s always a fine balancing act of whether they stay with us in the training environment, depending on the type of game time we think they’ll get, as opposed to going out and getting some meaningful game time at his age.

“We’ll make that decision but I’m really happy with the way he’s developed and the way he’s training and we’ll make that decision over the next week or so.”

With the departure of Harry Kane, there’s a notable gap in Tottenham’s forward line. The club has been linked with various potential striker signings, including Gift Orban, Jonathan David, Dusan Vlahovic, and Romelu Lukaku.

However, if Tottenham fail to secure another striker before the transfer window closes, Scarlett could have the chance to make his mark.

Postecoglou is known for his positive track record in nurturing young players’ growth and development.

Should Scarlett remain with the club, he could benefit from the manager’s expertise and potentially find opportunities to showcase his skills on the field.
