Have Manchester City begun making moves to add cover for Rodri to their squad? Finding a player who can step in and provide cover and potentially partner Rodri in the centre of the pitch does appear to be a priority for Manchester City this summer. A new report indicates that the champions are making moves to find suitable cover for their most important player.

Ben Jacobs has reported for 90min.com that Manchester City has approached the camp of Bruno Guimaraes. Furthermore, Jacobs reports that City like the fact that the Brazilian international can play as an either 6 or an 8 in midfield.

As a player, Bruno Guimaraes would appear ideally suited to a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad. With his international and Premier League experience, he appears to be a ready-made option for City’s midfield. There is also the added bonus that while Guimaraes can play in Rodri’s role, he is a different type of player than City’s midfield general.

Additionally, there would also be the opportunity to play both in the centre of midfield when required. For example, if Bruno Guimaraes was paired with Rodri, it would allow the Spanish international to drift further forward when required. Rodri’s ability in the final third is an underrated asset in his game. A player like Bruno Guimaraes would allow City to exploit this attribute of Rodri’s.

Manchester City has required a player to come in and support Rodri. The Spanish midfielder carries a heavy workload and has appeared tired at various stages of this season. Kalvin Phillips, Matheus Nunes, and Mateo Kovacic have all come in over the past two summer windows. But none of the trio have been able to nail down the role as reliable support for Rodri.

It appears that Manchester City are now making moves to secure reliable support for their most important player. If they were to bring Bruno Guimaraes to the Etihad, it could be a massive signing for City.
