Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are keeping a close eye on FC Barcelona’s central defender, Pau Cubarsí. Consequently, Barcelona is proactive in its efforts to secure the young defender a new contract, including a revised release clause fee.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the capital club dispatched a scout to watch Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí in action during the Barcelona-Napoli match. While the Spanish defender’s contract runs until 2026, Barcelona aim to secure him to a new deal due to his existing release clause.

SPORT reported on Friday at the latest regarding the file, in which they stated that negotiations proceed at their own pace. However, there is confidence within the Blaugrana club that they can finalize the agreement before the end of the 2023-24 season.

Cubarsí has already played thirteen games with the first team, where he has established himself as an undisputed starter. Furthermore, transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the new contract, should he sign, would include a €1 billion buyout clause.

It’ll be intriguing to see if teams like PSG go for the teenager this summer or if he opts to extend his contract to fend off potential suitors.
